Chapter 5: He ends things with her

After Jaehyun went home and settled Jeongwoo with his mum, he asked his mum to prepare an additional set of keys to their house - for Chaeyoung to visit Jeongwoo anytime she would like to. Jaehyun's mum was secretly happy and proud of her son for taking responsibility of his doings.

Jaehyun then drove to Naeun's house. He is determined to end things with her.

Naeun opened the door when Jaehyun rang the doorbell. She was all excited when she saw Jaehyun, almost failing to notice Jaehyun's serious expression.

"What happened, dear?" Naeun asked after Jaehyun took his seat on the couch, with her sitting right next to him.

Jaehyun turned and faced her, "Have you ever lied to me?"

"Lied to you about?" Naeun was confused.

"About the night we spent four nights ago."

Naeun started to get nervous, fiddling with her hands as she looked away, "what... what are you talking about?"

"Answer me."

"Of.. of course we did, Jaehyun-ah, what's this about?" Naeun tried to compose herself but the anxiety in her voice did not go unnoticed by Jaehyun.

"You are lying again, and you know I hate people lying to me."

"No... no.. ok yes, that night was a lie, but my feelings for you were real..."

Jaehyun scoffed at her words. He realized how foolish he had been. He had not once carried feelings for Naeun four years ago, treating her nothing more than a colleague. But because she lied that they had sex together, he tried to date her so as to take responsibility. Every time during the relationship when they tried to take things further, Naeun would refuse, saying they should only do so after marriage. But now, Jaehyun finally knows the real reason why, Naeun was afraid that Jaehyun would found out that she was still a virgin, that they did not spend the night together at all.

"Naeun, we are over now." Jaehyun threw his last words before standing up and heading towards the door, leaving Naeun behind crying and no chance to react.

Jaehyun took huge steps back to his car, heaved a huge sigh of relief when he was in the driver's seat. But, why would he feel relieved instead of upset to end a relationship? Perhaps it was because he finally got out of a four year lie? Or was it because he finally ended things with a lady he doesn't actually carry much feelings for? Or was it because he could finally take responsibility of who required it the most - Chaeyoung and Jeongwoo?
