Chapter 24: Dr Kim?

Chaeyoung was going for her rounds when she met Mingyu, a fellow doctor, along the corridor.

"Chaeyoung, how are you coping so far?"

Jennie, who was standing not far from them could hear him. His tone was a bit too friendly for her liking. Dr Kim was well-known for his good looks, many nurses or even patients were often heads over heels over him. But Mingyu has never paid much attention to them, always maintaining a professional relationship with the ladies around him. Even for Jennie who had been working in the hospital for so long, she wasn't even close to Dr Kim!

Therefore, when he was addressing Chaeyoung by her name, not even "Dr Park", Jennie's senses tensed up. She tried to eavesdrop on them further.

"Hey Mingyu, I am fine, just unsure of some of the procedures here so I get a little confused at times." Chaeyoung replied, a little embarrassed.

Jennie was now a little taken aback by how friendly Chaeyoung was. It may seem like a normal exchange but Chaeyoung was known to be quiet and distant. Moreover, she just joined the department not too long ago. Such an exchange is not normal for her.

"Look for me if you need help, alright?" Mingyu smiled and reached his hand to pat Chaeyoung's head. Since he was very tall, Chaeyoung looked like a little girl beside him as he did this. Chaeyoung simply smiled and thanked him in response.

Jennie saw the scene unfold in front of her and opened her mouth wide dramatically. She hurried up to Chaeyoung after Mingyu left, "Chaeyoung ah, you seem to know Dr Kim very well?"

"Dr Kim? Oh yes, Mingyu used to be my classmate back in medical school." Chaeyoung smiled.

"Ahh.. just classmate?... I see.." Jennie nodded but she wasn't convinced especially after she saw how Mingyu looked at Chaeyoung. After Chaeyoung walked away, Jennie heard some nurses gossiping. As Chaeyoung had been very private with her life and doesn't interact much with others, no one other than her nurse knew she's married. They didn't even know Jennie and Chaeyoung were sister-in-laws. They thought they were just close friends.

"No wonder Dr Kim always keep a distance from girls! He is already taken!" a nurse exclaimed, pouting in pity. 

"Yes! Dr Park too! There were patients who tried to get closer to her but she would always reply them coldly. Now we know why!"

"They look so compatible. So jealous of them!" the nurses giggled.

Jennie was so angry over their conversation that she gave them a glare, which stopped them from gossiping. She made a mental note to look out more for Chaeyoung. Mingyu is one of the most eligible bachelors around. His dad owns the Seoul hospital, which was why he had secured his role in the A&E department right after graduation. It's an open secret that he would take over the hospital as director one day. That would make Mingyu a tough opponent for Jaehyun if he were to come in between Jaehyun and Chaeyoung. 

Chaeyoung had absolutely no idea that Mingyu has  a crush on her since their medical school days. Chaeyoung, being the quiet yet likeable girl, has successfully stirred the hearts of many men, including Mingyu. Many of them were aggressive and confessed to Chaeyoung, causing Chaeyoung to keep a distance from them eventually. Afterall, Chaeyoung does not know how to respond to suitors, so she simply kept away. 

Mingyu, on the other hand, was different. He has never been aggressive towards Chaeyoung. He learnt from the falls of other guys and simply stayed by Chaeyoung's side as a good friend. That's how he managed to win Chaeyoung's trust back during the school days. While they haven't kept in contact (mainly due to Chaeyoung not responding to his texts often), he still had not moved on from her after their graduation.

Despite his mum arranging for multiple matchmaking sessions for him, he had never laid his eyes on any of them. Now that Chaeyoung reappeared in his life again, not knowing that she already has a son, he vowed to not let Chaeyoung slip through his life again.
