As I walk through the classroom door I make a promise to myself. If I'm going to be a good alpha to my people I need to give all a chance. But I also need to keep my people safe. I vow to give Colton a chance and hear him out but if he endangers my pack in any way I will personally end him.

Putting a smile on my face I thank Mr. Johnson for excusing me and return to my seat. Colton has my textbook laid out in front of him.

Noticing me looking at my book he quietly leans over and whispers, "Mr. Johnson said that you wouldn't mind me sharing with you until I was able to get one. Do you mind?"

Shaking my head, I shoot down any conversation he tries to have with me. I try to focus all my attention on today's lesson but fail to do so. My mind keeps wondering back to that horrible night. I am lost in my thoughts until a folded-up paper slides across the table and hits my arm.

Unfolding it, careful not to make a sound, I read in neat handwriting, "Mia?" I cringe a little knowing that he is aware that it is me, the small frightened young girl from years ago that he saved.

Knowing that he will find out is me at the meeting tonight I see no point lying so I simply write my response. "Yes, my name is Mia." I fold it back up and slide it back across the table.

His face lights up some when he sees my response. But before he could pass his next comment back Mr. Johnson clears his throat. Knowing that I need to continue with my work and not draw any attention to myself and Colton I turn back to my paper.

The rest of class he seems to get the point I am ignoring him because he doesn't try to pass the note he had written. Instead he waits until class ends to confront me.

As soon as the bell rings signaling class has ended he turns to me. "We have to talk."

I nod once then motion for him to follow me out of the room. It takes everything in me to calmly walk out of the school. I don't need my pack members thinking something is wrong and trying to follow.

When outside I go into the woods that is next to the school. Not wanting to go too far away from help if I need it I stop walking once we get just far enough in that we can't be seen.

"Why are you here?" I snap at him before he has a chance to ask me questions.

"Why don't we ask questions back and forth so that we each get answers?" He gives me that cute boyish smile.

Not liking it one bit I snap, "how about you answer what I ask."

Holding up his hands as if to show that he gives in he calmly says, "I just moved here to live with my adopted mom. She and my dad adopted me when I was very young. But then they separated when I was two. My dad had custody of me until he died recently. I promise I didn't know you lived in this town. But I can't say I'm not glad you do." He smiles at me again and my heart leaps a little. "Look about what happened before, I didn't-"

"Please don't say more. I don't want to relive those memories" I say as I let out a sigh.

"I understand I just want you to know that I didn't know what I was doing back then. I was raised to see your kind as animals not humans."

"And we were raised to never trust you and never let you people find us. But somehow you managed to find us and earn my trust on that horrible night."

"Okay my turn to ask you a question. How are you a senior? If I remember correctly you said you were two years younger than me which would mean you should be in 10th grade."

I know that I really shouldn't tell him let alone talk to him, but I feel a connection to him. It is like I want to tell him everything, past, present, and what I want for the future. Feeling like I've been in my own little world for long enough I look into his eyes. "What I am going to tell you has to stay between us. No one else can know about this."

I wait for him to nod before I continue. "Your memory is correct, I am two years younger than you. But my father thought that it would be a good idea to have me start school early so that I would grow up knowing and trusting the people in this generation. There are some very important future pack members in this grade." I stop for a second to let him think.

He takes that as an opportunity to ask questions. "Why is it so important for you to have their trust?"

"You know, you're smarter then you look."

"Thanks! I think." His puzzled face makes me laugh.

Still laughing I say, "Your welcome. But now back to my story. It's important because the future beta and third in command is in this grade. Also, who they all believe will be the future alpha."

He must have put two and two together because he asks, "who they believe will be alpha? You say that as if you know that person won't be."

"Again, you're correct. I am on good terms with our Alpha and he has informed me that the person won't be alpha after all." I smile just thinking about the meeting tonight. No one will expect this. I hope with all my heart that they accept me to be their alpha.

"Well are you going to tell me who the next alpha will be so that I know not to piss him off?" he looks kind of nervous.

That makes me angry that he just assumes that the alpha had to be a guy. Little does he know that he is speaking to the future alpha. Mad I turn and begin to walk to where the car is parked. Then I stop and turn back to him. "You will find out for yourself who he is. I was informed that you will be at our pack meeting tonight. See you then." With that I continue my way to the car.
