The Unknown

Chapter 9

I follow Oliver up the stairs onto the small stage and take a seat between my dad and him. On the left of Oliver is Luke and on the right of my dad is Alan followed by Robin to his right. When we start my dad will stand up and announce the third in command then the beta followed lastly by the alpha.

My dad stands up and goes to the front of the stage to address the crowd. "Ladies and gentleman we have a lot to discuss here tonight. First off I would like to welcome Colton to our pack." He pauses to let everyone clap before he continues, "I would like for everyone to treat him like he is one of us. Just because he can't shift doesn't make him any less of a member."

A few people near Colton pat him on the back and say a few words.

"Now on to what this meeting is really all about. Before I announce who the third will be I would like to remind people that I will still be in charge until I feel that the new Alpha is ready to take my place. Also keep in mind that the future leaders aren't just who I think will be the best fit at keeping our pack safe but also Alan and Robin. Now your new third in command will be Luke White."

There are a few gasps from those who though Luke would be beta. Others nod because they trust my dad's choices. A lot of people, humans included, respect my dad. Even those who think that he has made the wrong choice will follow him with his picks.

"Luke please come up here and stand by me while I announce who your beta will be."

Luke nods and begins to make his way to stand by my dad. As he passes by me he pats my arm.

Once he is by my dad he continues, "On to the future beta of the next generation. This position will be held be Oliver Daniel. Oliver please come stand next to Luke."

Oliver leans over before walking over to Luke and whispers, "relax, you'll do great."

My dad, our alpha, smiles at both boys. It is clear that he is very proud of both of them and he trusts that they will lead our pack to greatness. "Now I know that all of you must be wondering who Alpha will be since it won't be Oliver. No need to worry we have this all figured out. Some of you might not like the decision that we have made but you have to honor it and trust that it is the best for you all. So, without further ado I'd like to introduce to you your future Alpha, my daughter, Mia Jones."

A lot of people are in shock. They never would have thought that my dad would put a female in charge of our pack. It's never been done before. But there is always a first for everything.

"Come take your place next to your beta and third." My dad's calm, strong voice brings me out of my thoughts.

I make my way to stand in between and slightly in front of Luke and Oliver. I take my place and stand up straighter. It is finally official.

"How can a female be our Alpha?" Someone in the crowd yells out.

That is soon followed by others who think for this it would be all right to doubt the Alpha's judgement. "Oliver should be Alpha."

"We can't be led by a girl!"

"Enough!" My father's voice sounds over everyone. He uses his Alpha voice, it makes everyone stop what they are doing and look up at him. "I do not doubt Mia will make a fine Alpha in the near future. This choice stands for the time being. If anyone dare objects to my decision speak now." It isn't spoken but it was clear that no one better try to over speak his choice.

I feel a hand find its way into mine and give it a tight squeeze and another hand on the center of my back. These small jesters give me so much confidence. It is time for change.
