Listen. By M.E.

You never listened when I talked to you,
you heard my pain but never cared to change it.
When I tried to stop you from using me again,
you always said, "well I love you."
And maybe it's true, maybe it's true,
but I won't listen anymore.
I've had enough of your lies.

You paid no attention to my pleas,
you said, "we'll be happy when the throne is mine."
Yours? Yours?
How dare you say that?
If it wasn't for me you'd have lost long ago,
if it wasn't for my love and loyalty, where would you be now?
But I continued. I continued.

And finally came the day,
the king was slain, the crown was yours.
You called for a celebration, made empty promises to your people,
but you never looked at me.

You let the power get to your head,
you forgot I was there, I always had been standing behind you, your shadow for eternity.
I'm the one who wrote you all your battle plans.
I'm the one who told you who you could trust.
I'm the one who smiled when the king finally fell, for how happy I was for you.

But I'm the one you leave out,
I never got a crown.
I never got a promise,
and the past ones? You've broken them all already.
And you know what?
Why am I helping you? What have you ever done to me?

Maybe you'll listen when I stab a knife in your chest,
maybe you'll finally acknowledge me when I whisper a last goodbye in your ear,
I don't know, maybe you'll understand why the kingdom fell when your people betray you,
that it was all because of me.

And now, and now,
this is the last breath you're taking,
and my face is the last that you'll see.
You'll remember me in your grave,
you'll see me in your nightmares.
You'll never get rid of me,
even dead.
And guess whose fault it was?

I step away from your body,
look at the guards,
dead, dead, like you.
This is my kingdom now.
I would have been happy to share with you,
but you always wanted everything, "everything was yours".
Not anymore.

You're never coming back.
