From Runt to Queen

Summary:

Jewel is a beautiful brown wolf with amber eyes and ruby nose. Except she's a runt. Now being a runt isn't usually a bad thing. In fact they are usually cherished by their pack, they are usually mated to a high rank wolf that can protect them and are treated like nobles. Except Jewel wasn't. She's in the Flame Wolf Pack and was paired with Zach the future alpha of the pack by the Moon Goddess. Except her rejected her for Rachel, the Beta's daughter. He refused to mate with a runt and have weak pups like her. No one knows she was mated to him, except for her and him. She lived in agony for three years while Zach mated with Rachel, claiming her as his future luna. But one day they get a visit from Prince Dominic and her world changes forever.

Jewel's POV

I sigh sadly as I clean the house. It's been a year since my mother died. Well nearly, tomorrow is the anniversary. I should probably introduce myself. I'm Jewel and I'm an eighteen year old werewolf. Who happens to be a runt. And I was rejected by my chosen mate. He'd be made alpha soon with Rachel is his luna. She makes my life hell at school and no one does anything as she is future luna. She treats me like an Omega, even though it's illegal for anyone to be an omega. Even the servants at the royal wolf pack house are treated better then me.

"Morning Jewel" dad says as he enters the kitchen.

"Morning dad" I say with a smile. He's the only one that shows me any kindness. Mum did before she passed. In fact she died protecting me. Everyone blamed me for her death except for him. "Breakfast is on the table" I tell him.

"Thank you dear, I'm surprised your not getting ready for tomorrow" he states.

"I thought we could skip and go see mum's grave" I tell him. I did want to see mum's grave. But that's not why I don't want to be here tomorrow. Tomorrow Zach will be declared Alpha by the Prince of Wolves with Rachel as his Luna. The Prince should be arriving today with his guards. Unlike regular wolves, the royals chose their mates. Me I'll be stuck here forever alone.

"Jewel, I know this isn't the best pack and I'm sorry you can't leave it. Had you found your mate, you'd be able to leave and have a better life. But we are pack members and we all have to be present for the swap over of leadership" he tells me. I sigh in defeat. He hugs me. "I promise straight after the ceremony, you and I will go see her grave. And spend the day together" he vows.

"Really?" I ask him.

"Yes, we all have the day off tomorrow" he states. "Speaking of which, I'm late for patrol. Be safe and no going into the woods alone" he tells me. He grabs two pieces of toast and kisses my forehead before leaving. I eat breakfast and clean up. I feel a pain in my heart and sigh. Zach is mating with Rachel again. Why do I have to feel this pain? He rejected me, so I should feel nothing when he is with her.

I decide to go for a run to clear my head and get away from the pack house for awhile. I know dad said to stay out of the forest. But I felt free there and no one would disturb me there. I strip and shift before taking off through the forest towards the falls.

When I arrive I sit at the waters edge looking at my reflection. 'We will find someone' Ruby my wolf tells me. She always saying we'd have another mate, one that will love us unconditionally. I used to believe her. But I'm starting to lose hope. I sigh and curl up covering my face with my fluffy tail.

Suddenly I hear a growl and lift my tail to see a bear. I gasp and stand up backing away from it. What's it doing here? It should still be in hibernation for another week. It raises on it's hind legs and roars at me. I cower with my tail between my legs. A thunderous snarl fills the air and I look up to see a pure black wolf glaring at the bear baring his fangs. Who is that?

The bear roars back and the wolf stands his ground. He lets out a loud howl and two more wolves appear beside him. They all growl at the bear. Who lands on his front leads and walks away. 'Are you alright?' a gently masculine voice asks inside my head. I look around confused I don't know that voice. The guy chuckles in my head.

'Who are you?' I ask the voice.

'Dom, are you ok?' he asks me.

"Jewel!" dad shouts as he appears in wolf form. He races to my side. 'Are you ok?' he asks me.

'I am ok dad' I assure him. 'Dom and his friends saved me' I tell him. As Zach appears with Rachel and he glares at me. I hide behind dad staying low to the ground.

'Welcome Prince Dominic' Zach says. Prince? That explains why he could mind link with me.

'Why was a runt left alone to wonder the woods unprotected?' the prince demands.

'She has no mate' Zach states.

'Why should we waste pack strength to protect the weak link?' Rachel sneers. The prince snarls. We all bow to him.

'It is pack law to protect runts, to cherish them. They are usually paired with a high rank wolf by the Moon Goddess' he states. He looks at me. 'Who is your mate?' he demands.

'My mate rejected me' I whimper and he snarls.

'It is against pack law to reject a mate without cause. There is no exception to reject a runt, who rejected you?' he demands. I remain silent. 'I will not ask again, who rejected you?' he asks me in a calmer tone.

'Remain silent' Zach orders me.

'You have no power to over ride my command' the prince snarls at him. 'Now Jewel, who was your mate?' he asks me.

'Zach was, he rejected me three years ago because I am a runt. He choose my cousin the Beta's daughter to be his mate and luna. Claimed her' I state.

'Jewel, why did you never tell me?' dad asks me.

'Zach ordered me not to tell anyone' I state.

'Zach is this true?' Rachel asks him. But he ignores her and lunges at me snarling. But he is intercepted by one of the prince's guards. He is pinned.

'You are not worthy to be an alpha, a true alpha would never reject their mate' Dom snarls. 'I Prince Dominic future Alpha of the Royal Pack strip you of your title and power. I will be choosing a new alpha for this pack. A true alpha' he states. 'Where is your mate?' he asks Rachel.

'I never found him' she states.

'My prince, perhaps we should return to the pack house and inform the pack of the truth. And of what has happened' my dad suggests.

'You are right, lead the way' Dominic tells him. Dad bows his head and leads the way. The guards walk either side of Zach, who is now an average sized wolf. Rachel trials behind everyone. I go to walk beside my dad. But the prince blocks me. 'Walk with me' he tells me and I do so. I couldn't say no to the prince and future king of our kind.
