CHAPTER 42

Roni's POV

"Mag iingat ka doon. Message mo ako ha?" Roni tried to met Honey's eyes pero umiwas ito at tumango lang.

Kahit pilitin man niyang ipaharap ang mukha nito sa kanya ay hindi niya ginawa. She just clenched her hands until her knuckles were white.

Tumalikod na ito sa kanya at nag lakad patungo sa papa nito.

Malungkot na tinanaw ni Roni ang bestfriend niya. Honey's father waved at them bago nito hawakan sa balikat ang anak. Nakita niya pa ang pasimpleng pag tapik nito sa balikat ni Honey. Like he was comforting his own daughter.

Hinatid niya nang tanaw ang kaibigan. Gustuhin niya man niyang sumama para maihatid nang personal ang kaibigan ay hindi naman pwede. Tori needs her here.

"O, bigay ni Honey." Kuya Dean shoved the fruit basket to her. "I'll talk to her."

Pagkasabi nun ay patakbong umalis sa harap niya ang kapatid niya para habulin sina Honey.

Kumunot ang noo niya sa ginawa ng kuya niya. May gusto baa ng kuya niya kay Honey?

Roni looked at Tori's way.

"I think she has given up on you."

"I think Kuya Dean had a crush on her." Roni tried to smile despite herself. "Nag seselos ka na naman ba?"

"Yes I think so too, but...." Umiling ito. "The answer to your second question is no. Alam kong ako ang mahal mo. Hanggang ngayon ba ay manhid ka pa din sa nararamdaman ng bestfriend mo?"

Roni hangs her head. Nararamdaman niya na mahal siya ni Honey but she purposely ignored it. She was focused on Tori that nothing else mattered to her.

"Hindi. But I know that this is good for her. Kung kailangan niyang makalimutan na mahal niya ako to keep our friendship. I think it's a good decision."

Tori came to her and hugged her. Ipinatong nito ang ulo sa balikat niya.

Roni immediately felt warm. No one can make her feel so safe and warm at the same time like Tori.

"Pinapatawad ko na din siya sa mga nagawa niya. If she did that food poisoning."

Roni peek at Tori's face. Malungkot ang ngiti sa labi nito na nag pakunot naman sa noo niya.

"Pero nalulungkot ako na mawawalan ka ng betsfriend, mahal ko."

"If she needs it to get over me. Sino ako para pigilan siya, Tori?"

Isa pa kung hahabulin niya pa ang bestfriend niya. Siguradong mahihirapan lang ito lalo na kung ipapakita niya pa din that she cares. She cares pero dapat malaman nitong hindi iyon pag mamahal na hinihingi nito sa kanya.

She can only give Honey friendship, nothing else.

Tori smiled at what she said. "Ibang iba ka talaga kay James."

Napangiti si Roni sa sinabi nito. She pinched Tori's cheeks. "Bolera."

Huminga siya nang malalim. "But personally. I want to give up. Gusto kong piliin mo naman ako. Gusto kong maging matapang ka na harapin ang nararamdaman mo para sakin Tori."

Bahagyang inilayo ni Tori ang sarili niya. Tori smiled. "Ikaw ang pipiliin ko Roni. I already told my Aunt Clara that I decided to stay with you, sa ayaw at sa gusto niya. I bravely told her that I will live with you in the condo."

What Tori said sent warmth to Roni's heart. Kahit nalulungkot siyang maraming nasirang relasyon nila sa ibang tao dahil mahal nila ang isat isa ay hindi niya ipag papalit ang kaligayahan na nararamdaman niya ngayon.

Dahil sa mga pagsubok na hinarap nila ay naging matapang si Tori. And Roni on the other hand learn to choose herself. Naisip niyang wag ipilit ang sarili niya and that someone has to choose her kung gusto nitong manatili siya sa buhay nito.

"Thank you for choosing me." Roni was about to hug Tori back but stopped by the basket she was holding.

Napangiti ito. Roni smiled and quickly went back to Tori's room. Inilapag niya ang basket sa lamesa at hinapit sa bewang ang dalaga.

Tumili si Tori.

"S-Stop!"

Roni rained kisses on Tori's face. Iwas naman ito ng iwas habang tumatawa.

Sa sobrang likot nila ay nasagi nila ang basket ng prutas na nakalagay sa lamesa. The contents spilled out of the basket at gumulong ang mga ito sa sahig.

Roni and Tori immediately crouched down to pick up the fruits.

"Ikaw kasi ang likot likot mo." Tori glared at Roni.

But Roni just smiled. "You can't blame me. Ang cute mo kasi. I can't help myself."

She picked up an apple and put it inside the basket. Napakunot ang noo niya nang makita ang isang pink na sobre.

Her heart thundered inside her chest. Kahit alam niya na ang laman ng letter na iyon ay wala sa sariling inabot niya ito.

Her hands trembled habang hawak ang sobre.

To Roni, iyon ang nakalagay sa kabilang bahagi ng papel nang baliktarin niya iyon.

Tori must have noticed that she stopped picking up the fruits. Tumigil ito sa ginagawa at tumingin sa kanya.

Nanlaki ang mga mata nito nang makita ang hawak niyang sobre.

"S-So she finally confessed, huh?"

"H-Hindi pa naman natin alam kung ano talagang laman nito. M-Maybe she just wants to say goodbye properly dahil hindi niya nagawa kanina."

Tori raised an eyebrow at her pero agad din nitong ibinaba iyon. Bumuntonghininga ito. "Go ahead. You can read that if you want. Naiintindihan ko si Honey. If you can't talk to the one your love properly. Siguradong susulatan ko din siya."

Roni looked down. She knew that she caused pain to her bestfriend. The least she could do is read Honey's letter. Isang respeto sa damdamin nitong hindi niya masuklian.

Roni tore open the envelope, took the paper out, and opened it.

Dear Roni,

Bestfriend. I don't know how to say this, but I guess by now. You already know how I feel about you. Yes, I have loved you since I was young. You are my hero, my protector, and my confidante. Thank you for always being there.

Sa kaso ko, minasama ko ang mga tulong mo noon. I mistook it for love and in desperation. I did some things that I will regret. I wish I could take it all back.

I wish it was me who you loved first.

Bakit hindi ako Roni? Mahal na mahal kita.

But I know that love couldn't be forced. Hindi ito pwedeng ipilit. Parang kanin na kapag mainit hindi pwedeng isubo sa bibig dahil siguradong mapapaso ka.

Her eyes clouded with tears. Alam niya kung ano ang pakiramdam ng isang unrequited love. Ni hindi iisang araw siyang umiyak noon kay Tori and she wonders if Honey confessed. Ito ba ang nagustuhan at minahal niya instead of Tori?
