"What?"

Harry jerked his head toward the dormitory door and Rigel and Ron followed him out. They hurried down to the Gryffindor common room, which was half-empty, and joined Hermione, who was sitting alone, reading a book called Ancient Runes Made Easy. Hermione looked aghast at the news.

Hermione looked aghast at the news.

"But - only a Gryffindor could have stolen - nobody else knows our password -"

"Exactly," said Harry.

They woke the next day to brilliant sunshine and a light, refreshing breeze.

"Alright team," Oliver said once they were all changed and waiting to walk out onto the pitch. "There's only one more game after this one, and that one determines who wins the Quidditch Cup. I am fully confident that we will be the winners this year, what with our superb Seeker and excellent newest Chaser."

Rigel and Harry grinned at each other as Eliza wrapped an arm around each of them. "Let's make this our best game yet!"

After a long breakfast full of Rigel continuously singing, "His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad, his hair is as dark as a blackboard," it was almost time for the Quidditch match.

"You've been yawning a lot," Rigel asked concerned.

"Oh, I'm fine." Eliza waved which worried Rigel even more.

They met the Hufflepuff team in the center; Oliver and the Hufflepuff captain shook hands, Madam Hooch gave her usual speech, they mounted their brooms, and then-

McGonagall came running out onto the field, her wand amplifying her voice. "If I could have your attention, please!" The crowd quieted. "This match had been canceled!"

There were shouts of outrage and mutterings of unhappiness.

"All students are to make their way back to the House common rooms, where their heads of Houses will give them further information. As quickly as you can, please!"

McGonagall came running out onto the field,

"Potter, Potter, Black I think you'd better come with me..."

Wondering how she could possibly suspect him this time, Rigel saw Ron detach himself from the complaining crowd; he came running up to them as they set off toward the castle. To their surprise, Professor McGonagall didn't object.

"Yes, perhaps you'd better come, too Weasley..."

Some of the students swarming around them were grumbling about the match being cancelled; others looked worried. Harry, Rigel, Eliza, and Ron followed Professor McGonagall back into the school and up the marble staircase. But they weren't taken to anybody's office this time.

"This will be a bit of a shock," said Professor McGonagall in a surprisingly gentle voice as they approached the infirmary. "There has been another attack... another double attack."

Rigel's insides did a horrible somersault. Professor McGonagall pushed the door open and he and Ron entered... Madam Pomfrey was bending over a fifth-year girl with long, curly hair and Hermione Granger!

"Hermione!" Ron groaned.

"No no no" Eliza muttered running towards Hermione. Tears began forming in her eyes, threatening to flow over.

Eliza quietly sobbed while Harry just hugged his sister too shocked to say anything. Rigel was gaping at the petrified muggle-born.

"She was holding this when we found her." McGonagall reached over to the small table next to Hermione's bed and picked up a small, compact mirror. "Do any of you have any idea at all what this could mean?"
