After leaving the gardens I head back to the maid's sleeping quarters, lost in thought. As I round the last corner I stare at the house somberly. I pray that everyone is sleeping and going to bed will be easier tonight. I swing open the door silently, stepping into the dark house, and I mentally cheer that my prayers has been answered. "Where have you been Ciara?" I tense at the sound of the head maid's question and the giggles from the other girls.
"Just went for a walk." I tell her, making sure my emotions are well hidden.
"I see. Well since you think you're to good to hang out with people like us, you can take over Selena's position. The King's maid." She sneers down at me and my heart stutters in fear.
"Yes Ma'am, anything else?" I keep up my blank expression. I made the mistake of showing my true feelings and emotions to these girls before and I will not do it again. These girls are pure evil.
"The information is on your bed. Now get out of my sight, blackie." She spits out at me. I clench my fist, to refrain from punching her and ending up in the dungeoms again. Last time was hell and I refuse to go back. No food and barely enough water to sustain me, and it was cold down there. The lingering smell of death all around me.
I quickly head over to my bed and climb in to enrage to change. I snap my curtains close to drown out the smug faces of the women around me. I take deep breaths, my anger slowly ebbing away. Once I am completely calm, I reach behind me and pick up the small piece of parchment and read it.
5:30 am- Head to the kitchen for the King's breakfast.
6:00 am- Bring the King his breakfast
6:10-6:50- Tidy his room
6:50-7:00- Awaken the King
7:05- Draw the King's bath
7:10- Wash, dry, and help dress the king.
7:50- Leave and complete your other choresI sigh, already exhausted just thinking about adding onto my workload. I put the parchment aside, shutting off my reading light and falling back onto my pillow. After staring up at the wooden slacks of the bed on top of mine, my eyes slowly start to droop close, until eventually I'm soundly asleep.
