Xander kissed my forehead and got off the bed to pick up his phone from the table.

I briefly saw the name Brianna on his screen. Why was Alex's sister calling him? Given the half-naked state I was in, I didn't take more than a second to think about it, deciding I'd ask him about it later even if Xander was much closed when asked about him.

He asked everything there had to be about me which was very less, but when it came to telling me about him—his past, he didn't let me know anything. Nevertheless, he didn't hesitate to talk about who he was now in all of the time we spent with one another.

I took the bra and covered myself followed by my dress. My panties were sticking to my skin too much—I needed to change. Xander and I had planned we'd go out for a night walk out in the streets after dinner.

I was so turned on but I stopped him because I knew how important calls were.

Sometimes we never really know how important a call is or what the other wants to let you know—they can be in danger, so, I always made sure to never ignore calls.

I didn't always think this way until that night years ago when Jasmine's sister Lily had reached out to me when her physically and mentally abusive boyfriend beat her to almost death and she had run away, finally, and reached out to me since Jasmine's mom Rosita was in surgery with my mom and Jasmine hadn't picked her phone because it was in silence while they didn't have any relation with their father because he was abusive to Rosita since a long time until a decade ago when she got the courage and left him.

I looked at Xander with a question when he furrowed his brows. What is going on? I mouthed him and he ran his hand on my hair, shaking his head. He leaned down and pecked my lips. "I'll be back to you." I nodded as he got out of the room.

My thoughts went back to Lily.

The condition in which Lily was found in...I could never remove the image of her in a hospital bed, bleeding and all bruised up.

Had I not picked up her call, I didn't want to wonder what would have happened to her state when she was so vulnerable and broken that she didn't have the consciousness to think about calling the cops. It hurt, even more, knowing her boyfriend got out of prison some months later despite my dad applying his powers to help Rosita but Lily's boyfriend's family was strong and wealthy as well. I never learned about his family. however--nobody did including Lily. Fortunately, none of us had encountered him till now again.

I sighed. My mind got distracted from this heated moment so easily. I loved Lily as if she were my sibling even though I never had one.
