"Daddy! It's my birthday!" Emma ran into his bedroom

"It is" He chuckled as she climbed up the bed and cuddled into her father's arms

"Do we have a party?" She gasped

"Yes honey, later this afternoon" Derek kissed her head as he was still tired

"I'm so excited for today!" Emma giggled

"Me too honey. Me too" Derek whispered

Today would be their last peaceful days for a while. The day after tomorrow Meredith's chemo would be restarted as she recovered enough from the surgery she had earlier

Derek chuckled when he head Emma snoring and decided to close his eyes a little longer as well

Meredith woke up to Emma kissing her cheek several times

"Mommy!" She smiled as she saw her mother opening her eyes

"Morning princess. Happy 5th birthday" Meredith smiled

"I'm soooooo big now" Emma giggled

"You are getting old" Derek chuckled and helped Meredith sit up carefully

"Thanks" She smiled softly as Emma started talking to her

"Nana promised I'd get a unicorn cake!" Emma smiled

"I bet Nana will buy you the most beautiful cake" Meredith wrapped her arms around Emma

"Will Nana and Poppa be here soon?" Emma asked her parents

"Why don't we go downstairs?" Derek suggested with a wink

"Mommy come!" Emma pulled at Meredith's hand

"Slow Em" Derek reminded her and changed Meredith's sweater and scarf before he led her out of the room

"Mommy, come!" Emma giggled

"Emma" Derek said sternly as he noticed his wife had a lot of trouble to stay up

"Happy birthday Emma!" Several people jumped up from their hiding spot

"Oh!" Emma gasped and smiled as she saw everyone standing down the stairs

"Look, walk further" Derek smiled as he knew everyone had done their best the previous night to decorate the whole living room

"Wow! Thank you!" Emma whispered as she saw all the unicorns spread around the room. She ran towards the silver and pink balloons "Ava look!" She smiled

The two girls started running through the room to inspect all the decoration while Derek helped Meredith to the couch where Mark had set everything ready for Meredith's tube feeding

"Thanks Markie" Meredith weakly grabbed for his hand and squeezed ut

"Come here" Mark helped her get comfortable and gave her a hug

"Mommy, come play!" Emma yelled

"We're gonna have breakfast first honey. What do you and you and your sister want?" Carolyn asked

"Pancakes!" They both yelled

"You two wanna help me?" Carolyn asked with a smile and chuckled as the two girls ran into the kitchen

"Those two have too much energy" Addison chuckled as she took a seat on the couch

"Too much for their own good" Meredith giggled softly and rested her head on Derek's chest
