I watched my brother nibble on a piece of chicken, while Mac absolutely devoured her meal and I took small bites of mine. "Can I go play now?" My daughter asked, glancing up to meet my tired eyes."Sure, sweetie." I nodded, grabbing the glass of soda before I took a sip of it.
"Thanks." Mac ran back to her room, and almost immediately I felt Buck's gaze fall upon me, most likely taking note of the exhausted look in my eyes.
"Why would she do that?" He asked, once his niece was out of sight, making sure she wouldn't hear the conversation we were about to have. "May, she's a great kid with a great family..."
"People do funny things at times like that. She's just a teen, Evan. She's figuring stuff out, she's going through some drastic changes in her life... some stupid kid that needs a lot of therapy, attention and some lessons on how to treat others with respect, picking on her just made everything worse. I'm sure she didn't mean for it to go that far. She probably just wanted the world to stop rotating for a moment. She just needed peace." I replied. I could see the way my brother looked at me, like he had just realized I understood May's situation, more than I should.
