Of course they had to be attacked by Laestrygones. Why not? It just seemed natural, fighting monsters every few hours and almost dying.
"This is it." Cora announced. They were in front of thef DOA recording studios. Silena blinked a few times, just to make sure her eyes were working correctly.
"Er—this is the entrance to the Underworld?" She asked.
"Yes." Cora said. She sounded absolutely certain.
"So–the entrance is right here?"
"Yes."
"You mean–"
"Yes." Cora walked forward, examining the place. "Yep, here we are. Are you guys ready?"
Silena honestly didn't know what 'ready' meant anymore. If it meant that she was going to die any second and that she was ok with it, she wasn't sure if she was 'ready.'
"It'll be alright," Cora assured them. Once again, she sounded completely certain. Silena guessed it was because her mother was there. But still, Cora didn't seem to be bothered much about Laura.
"Well, then," Zoe shifted uncomfortably. Silena understood. All that traveling and fighting monsters came down to this; the beast. Whoever she was, Silena was not excited. True, the beast had taken the form of Laura's body but none of them knew who she really was.
"What are we waiting for?" Rose asked, her hammer in her hands. Silena felt a small pang of guilt and regret looking at her. For once, Rose actually sounded serious. And she was not cracking any jokes, which was not like her at all.
Cora opened her mouth, then froze. Silena quickly strode toward the entrance, not looking at where Cora was. She couldn't stand it if they were to face more monsters. They were so close. If she could just make it there . . .
The air moved two millimeters away from her face. She heard a few screams. With shock and horror, she realized that a spear had missed her. Wonderful. Her wrist had just healed, thanks to Bianca, and now all he needed was another injury.
Silena turned around and promptly froze. In front of her stood seven large giants–wait, no, they were shorter than giants–
Silena racked her brains. She knew the information was there somewhere. But she didn't have to think.
"Laistrygeons,' Zoe muttered. She didn't look that terrified, though, just kind of pale. Silena guessed this was because Zoe was used to monsters now. Gee, why was that?
All she wanted to do was crawl into her bed, safely under her covers in her cozy room, preferably with a cup of hot chocolate. She didn't want to fight anymore. It was just completely unfair. But none of the others complained, and Silena knew she shouldn't either. They were on a quest. There would be no spa or hot chocolate around.
Her feet lifted off the floor easily and she brought katoptris out again. Next to her, Rose had her big hammer in one hand, and a ball of fire in her other. Zoe stood right in the middle, her bronze dagger clutched in front of her. Silena thought she heard water moving behind her. Cora pulled out her long thin sword, her eyes narrowed. Bianca was probably the most intimidating. Small trendles of darkness slithered around her feet. Her bare-back sword seemed to suck all the warmth out of the air around her. Marie had an arrow mocked. Small gems were popping around her feet. Ok, so that was something she still hadn't explained. She absolutely refused to talk about ehr strange power over precious metals and stones, though Silena didn't complain. Those powers were what saved them in Crusty's shop.
