Mayas POV
One week into junior year and I'm already exhausted...I'm up to my ass in homework, Lucas and I barely have time to see one another, and Riley hasn't spoke to me all day.

This summer was perfect. Things with Riley were better then ever. She finally found someone who loves her as much as she deserves and I finally had my huckleberry. Now that it's over, it's left me exhausted.

I set down my books and sit in my bed. My phone buzzes and it's a text from Lucas. Don't get me wrong, his messages brighten my day but I guess I keep hoping It'll be from riles.

The last two weeks she's been distant. I open my contacts and select Riley. I begin to type when my mom walks in the room.
"Hey Hon. how was your day?"
I set down my phone and proceed to talk about my day from Mr. Matthews lecture about human rights and Ghandi to the endless assignments in math class. We spent several minutes in conversation when my moms phone rang.
"Oh, it's Topanga? Have you talked to Riley, is she okay?"
"I mean we haven't spoken much but she seems okay. Why?"
"Not sure, just give me a minute."
The look across my moms face suggests panic and concern.

She closes my door and walks into the other room. After half an hour, I hear the unidentifiable wording come to an end. Her foot steps become louder and she knocks on my door.

I sensed something was wrong and my heart began to race. She sits at the end of my bed with tears welling in her eyes. She holds my hand and utters softly; "Sweetheart, there's something I need to tell you about Riley..."
