The warm summer air clung to your tanned skin as you hoisted the last bag of clothes out of your car. You slammed the car door shut, making sure you were holding the keys in your hand. You had an awful habit of locking your keys in the car, but this time you accidentally left your spare all the way back in Orvud so you'd have a hell of a time trying to get back in now. You'll need to grab that the next time you visit home.

You slung your bag over your shoulder and began the hike to your apartment, body aching with exhaustion. Move in day had been tougher than you thought it would be as both of your parents were busy with work and couldn't find the time to travel all the way to Shiganshina to help you. Thankfully, your new roommate Mikasa's parents were around and kind enough to help you with the big stuff while also helping their daughter move in.

You had only officially met Mikasa just yesterday when you both began to move in, however it felt as if you'd known her longer because the two of you had been FaceTiming all summer to coordinate furniture and decorations. When you finally were able to meet her in person, you somehow knew that she was going to be a breath of fresh air. A reliable friend. A new beginning.

If only you didn't need to start this friendship with a secret.

Once you trekked to apartment C28, you burst the door open and entered the living room. Your new apartment was perfect to be shared between two people. It had an open floor plan and a spacious kitchen and living area, with Mikasa's room and bathroom to the right while yours was on the left. The fact that you each had your own bathroom was one of the main reasons you chose this complex.

While you both still needed to fully unpack, the two of you agreed on dark and earth tones for decor. Your chic and comfortable dark green/almost black couch was already in its place in your living room thanks to the help of Mikasa's parents. Across from it on the opposite wall sat a large box, most likely holding the pieces of the black TV stand Mikasa bought. You noticed that the large black patterned rug you bought was now laid flat on the floor in front of the couch. You assumed that Mikasa had unrolled it while you had gone back out to your car. It tied the room together quite nicely.

You strolled over to the large couch and practically fell into it. A loud sigh desperately escaped your lungs and your bag hit the floor with a thud. You reaaalllly should go put these clothes in the closet, but your body was begging you to stay put.

"Something tells me you're not up for helping me assemble the TV stand tonight," Mikasa chuckled from the kitchen.

"No, no, no. I got it. I have to pay you back somehow for your parents helping me yesterday," you assured her. You really were fine. You just needed a moment to process the fact that you had officially uprooted your comfortable life in Orvud to start anew in this far away town. Where you knew absolutely nobody. Except for Mikasa, now. No big deal.

"Don't worry about that, they were happy to help," she replied as she strode into the living room with two mugs in her hand. Steam bubbled off of the top of them. "Do you like tea?"

"That sounds amazing," you answered while taking the warm mug into your hands. The tea smelled amazing too, like fruity hibiscus. Mikasa joined you on the opposite end of the couch and gazed out the window. The sun had just began to set, painting the sky orange and signaling the last night before classes started in the morning. Other students were outside enjoying the summer heat and talking to each other, anticipating the start of a new semester. Mikasa was already in a set of dark red pajamas, and her short raven colored hair messily framed her face.

You couldn't help but be nervous about the beginning of your senior year of undergrad. Senior year would bring harder classes, tough exams, and applications to medical school which would allow you to follow in your parents' footsteps. Transferring from Orvud University to University of Shiganshina introduced even more challenges, like making friends with people who have known each other now for at least three years, or getting to know the professors' teaching styles. Even just navigating campus and unavoidably getting lost. Before you knew it, anxiety quickly built up in the pit of your stomach. You had hoped that Mikasa would be in a class or two of yours, but with her being a health and physical education major you didn't share any. You were on your own.
