"i'm 19 ma..." lani's tears slid off her cheeks. she dusted off some dirt and moss, "i will make you proud." she wiped her tears and sniffled, leaning against the grave's side and talking to it, like she believed that her mother would hear her. she poured her heart out, it was exactly 05:55 am 23rd of March 2022 but that didn't stop her tears, her 19th birthday had just started and she was already sobbing silently.
she rumaged through her brain for something to pass time and let her stay in peace, in the noises of nature, in the crisp wind, and in the presence of her mother. "i brought you these..." lani softly placed a small bouquet of lilies down as it was always her mother's favourite, also why her mother named her nari, mandarin for lily flower. she couldn't keep herself together as she sunk into the dirt ground, letting out whimpers and quiet wails, it just felt too hard to be happy.
her phone vibrated as she finally powered it on for the first time in two weeks. her phone lit up in the dark mist of edinburgh's morning, multiple notifications from her members and friends back in korea, the most recent one catching her attention.

guilt sunk in as she scrolled through the multiple paragraphs sent from each member everyday since she left them with no heads up. she looked back at how evil it was of her to leave her best friends and they had to find out through social media that she had left.
lani cried and cried in the cemetary, scrolling through social media to read all the cruel comments about her, about how much of an attention wh0re she was, how she took away V3NUS and stray kids away from them, and how happy she has finally made the ot5 fans. no one supported her, apart from the ones who really mattered, but not in lani's eye.
the main clip of her was an interview posted days after her hiatus, but a interview she was in the same day she found out about her mother, where she was glad that the lighting made everyone look like they had tears in their eyes as her's weren't just the lighting. multiple clips swarmed the internet of her blinking back her flooding eyes quickly and staying quiet, even though she was the most fluent in english and it was a fully english interview.
her dm's were like a war space, everyone arguing if lani was permenantly gone and if it was good or not. she finally closed it off properly and pushed herself away from her mother's grave. "i'm sorry this was so depressing ma... i love you and miss you..."

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" finn jumped up to cling onto his older sister. lani's expression visibly brightened as she adjusted finn to rest on her hip. "you want cake don't you?" lani deadpanned, finn's smiling fading as he nodded straight away. "great to know that you love me bud," she laid down on the sofa with him resting his head on her stuck out arm.
"how's the birthday girl?" gianna flipped her camera to a pouting girl eating watermelon messily. she looked up to her sister with the same pout and a stuffed mouth, happily waving at the camera noticing she was being filmed.
she looked around at the table around her, as if time froze, harry and lunette his fiancé were laughing at something klaus had done, elijah hit his boyfriend jihyun's head after he accidently swore infront of dean, gianna and lexi were talking to the camera about a birthday surprise for lani, almost like she wasn't sitting next to them, and hannah and finn who were excitedly bouncing in their seats, patiently waiting for cake.
and it that moment she realised, is that this, and tomorrow X together is what family felt like. just enjoying your siblings and members (basically siblings) presence with such glee and love.
