Falling For The Surrogate

Normani Janine

Today I awoke to loud angry voices it wasn't after pausing to listen did I recognize who the voices belonged to and it seemed they were arguing heatedly might I add, from what I overheard without meaning to eavesdrop.

I mean they were arguing in the freaking hallway a few meters away from my room and the kitchen which I was headed to as I quietly peeped from my door thinking of ways I could make it to the kitchen without interrupting them

"Oh please Hugh....can we really not get into this today"Alexandra said her words a bit slurred

"I'm having a bit of a migraine..."she adds and it was obvious she wasn't quite sober

"I doubt a migraine should be the only thing you should be feeling right now"it was Hugh's voice now that I heard "I mean just take a good look at yourself...it isn't even day break yet and you're already slurring your words"

"Hugh can we not..I told you I'm having a migraine..

"And I'm telling you that's less worse than what you should actually be feeling right now...you're a married woman and if that isn't enough reason to slam some sense of responsibility into that thick head of yours how about the fact that you're a mother to a newborn for Christ sake you're meant to be catering for your child if this was a normal setting you wouldn't be drinking when you're meant to be breast feeding your baby"

"Well thank God for the surrogate then and that this isn't a normal setting...Jeez give me a break"she states

"You don't get a break at least you made that abundantly clear what with you being so engrossed in your career you don't have time for anything else"

"You're not doing this Hugh...no no you're not turning all this around to blame my career we've had this discussion...and you didn't have a problem with our agreement so what's the problem now? Hugh

"The problem is you're going back on your words i guess it's clear now or should I say I'm starting to see why you wanted a surrogate in the first place why you proposed this selfish idea of yours to me I must have been so stupid to actually think it was in our best interest...Huh wifey" Hugh states the look on his face very angry as I immediately shut my door deciding it would be best if I stayed in my room a little bit longer.

Hugh Sterling

I stared at Alexandra hoping and waiting for her to deny the allegations but instead she remained quiet

"It was all part of your masterminded plan right get Hugh to agree to the surrogacy so it can keep him off my back of having a child Huh.... it's easy just like killing two birds with one stone admit it Wifey

"Admit what Hugh the only thing I'm admitting right now is that I have a terrible migraine and you're being an ass a bully and a selfish prick by not letting me get the rest that I deserve" she yelled as the waterworks began I was tempted to stop that moment but I didn't

"Oh No No No boo that's where you're wrong I'm not all of those things you mentioned you are.

"You see Alexandra where were you all through last night? I questioned standing in front of her so I could watch her face as she spoke

"I told you I was at a fundraiser" she yelled

"You my dear wifey are a very good actress and coupled with that you're a liar but not a very good one because you see your dear friend Sheila called to thank me for being a very generous husband by letting you go for your fellow colleague birthday party" I tell her watching as her eyes widened a sign she'd sobered up before she managed to wipe off the expression

"You see I wouldn't have a problem with you going if it wasn't that you lied to me not only once but twice and for what to attend the birthday party of your ex who so happened to be your colleague"

"You did all this forgetting the fact that you're a wife and a mother of a newborn whom you haven't spent up to twenty four hours with since he was born knowing fully well that you were advised to bond with him so he doesn't get attached to someone else who isn't his mother"I finished watching as a look of guilt passes across her face before she masks it off

"It wasn't like that Hugh I'm...I'm so"

"Save it Alexandra don't say something unless you actually mean it" and with that I made to leave but I remembered something that I couldn't resist adding

"And my dear wifey....that award what was it that you were nominated for

"Best career driven woman" she muttered softly

"Don't worry I'm not going to withdraw your nomination in fact I have a feeling you'd win
Very fitting don't you think"

And with that I left
