Mornings were never the same, I woke up before my alarm would tick off.
Rushing to the bathroom for a quick shower, I don't even know why I am rushing. Regardless I ran through the stairs to the kitchen to make quick coffee.
Waiting for water to boil, looking up to the glass windows with the seas greeting me. The morning cold breezes, it's too early for sunrise, I poured coffee into my go-to cup and went out for a jog. Straight to that spot looking over my watch, it's 5 40 in the morning and the sunrise comes up at 6 15 I still got time. And I know he would be there waiting for sunrise as he usually does before he leaves out to sea.

From a distance, I can see the spot where we used to meet. I heard the sound of the horn which made me stop jogging only a few feet away from him. He blew the horn 3 times and then sang a melody-like chant, a song you hear like someone is praying I stopped in my tracks to not disturb him.
The sun was already rising as the sunlight hits him he glowed and sparkled the waters of the waves splashing all over.
It was a mesmerizing sight and it was unbelievably beautiful, If my phone was with me right now I'd have it recorded.
It was solemn it feels like the angels had descended from heaven and how he sang it with all of his heart like the sunshine above.
After a few minutes of letting him have a moment of silence, I moved closer.

"Nereus.." Taylen

"Taylen.." - Nereus

"Good morning, what were you doing awhile back" - Taylen

He smiled bitterly looking fondly at the sea as if talking to it.

"I am singing the song of thanks, giving praise to the sea and saying goodbye" - Nereus

"Goodbye?"- Taylen

He turned to look at me smiling brightly but his eyes were sad.

"My cycle completes a decade more but I feel like I will be leaving by the next full moon" - Nereus

"You will leave?why?"- Taylen

"Child, have you heard of dying because of a broken heart" - Nereus

He was stroking my cheeks as I looked up at him, still sitting on the boulder where he usually is. I cupped his cold hands on my cheek pressing his hands to my face.

"But I just met you?"- Taylen

"I know and I am thankful I've come to know you. Taylen my dear smile" - Nereus

"You're leaving ... " - Taylen

I looked down I don't want him to see me crying because he will leave. I don't even know why I am very emotional about all of this I just
met him a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd be able to spend a long time with I even pushed back my work to be able to be here for as long as I can.

"I will be one with the sea again, it is normal for us to part like this like how Offel was when he left" - Nereus

"Offel?"- Taylen

"He was just like you, do you want to know more?"- Nereus

I nodded as he went down and now led me to sit on the sands.
We leaned on the boulder facing the sea. He proceeded to tell a story of Offel, he is different but similar I could not pinpoint but I feel like he is somewhat dear to me like how dear Nereus is.

"Although Offel is sometimes cheeky and naughty he has a good heart" - Nereus

"You two must be very close" - Taylen

"Yes, he is close to my heart" - Nereus

Then he held my wrist fiddling with the pearl bracelet.

"This was the last memoir he left when he parted, it was pinkish white meaning that he is sad and happy at the same time" - Nereus

"Why did you give it to me if it is that important?"- Taylen

"Because I think it was meant to be in your hands, Taylen would you do me a favor?"- Nereus

He closed my hands with the pearl inside.

"Would you do the honor of keeping both pearls together for me? When I part I will give you my last tear" - Nereus

"I .. I would like to, at least do this for you but the next full moon is next month, I don't think I'm ready its too soon.. Nereyyy" - Taylen

His eyes wavered like I said something wrong.

"What's wrong?"- Taylen

"Nerey, I haven't heard that for a long time. Offel used to call me that, you are similar and different in some ways" - Nereus

He chuckled his smile so bright as he pressed his forehead to mine.

"Close your eyes Taylen.. " - Nereus

I closed my eyes I can still feel Nereus's forehead and his breath on my face. I felt his nose and his lips pressed softly on mine. I can feel him smile through the kiss, I haven't moved a muscle as I waited I feared that if I do anything he be back away. Just a sweet peck and it was gone. I opened my eyes to him looking out through the sea.

"It is the only gift I can give to you" - Nereus

"What gift?"- Taylen

"You will find out in time" - Nereus

" Thank you" - Taylen

After a couple of minutes, he bid me goodbye and promised to meet again at sunset. Then he is out to sea again his white tail sparkled as he swam further away from the shore.
I traced my lips that were still moist from his kiss, smiling like a fool even knowing that the happiness I felt at the moment would only last till the next full moon.
