Dream POV

"So someone is trying to hide this boy's identity...undoubtedly his parents I suspect. With your witness dead how do you propose continuing this mission?"
My mother asked but it sounded more of a statement. Y/N was next to me, bowing her head like mine.

"Your Highness, forgive my bluntness but would it not be better to allow the boy to live?"
She proposed. I felt myself stiffen up.
Why would she say that?
"He would kill my son. How can you not see that?"
Y/N lifted both her hands in defeat.
"All due respect we cannot guarantee that killing the prince would be the path this child takes. We have already indirectly killed somebody who he may have had a close relationship with. Revenge only happens because of a harm done."

What Y/N said could be true however her and I both knew it wasn't. In the end my half brother becomes the Red Assassin and does seek to kill me. So why would she change her mind? Was she not the person who told me to suck it up and accept the prospect of killing an innocent boy?
My mother tapped her nails on the table and ran her tongue across her teeth in angry frustration.

"No. It is a guarantee because, simply put, it is a way into power. Every man greeds for more. I will protect my son, not the boy who was never meant to be. Am I understood Deathly Daughter?"
She demanded. Y/N half smiled but nodded. Her gaze fell on me.
"Explain what you found."

I calmly laid out the notes I had made onto the table. "We found a note in her hand, however the language she used...was unknown. We suspected and confirmed with your Mage that the language this woman, who is a commoner, used was the Magic language of the mages."
I gave the original note to Y/N who gave it to my mother.
"I see. The crime for such is a hand sawed off. Not to mention the scripts in order to learn this language aren't available to anyone except for extremely high up positions in the kingdom."
Queen Puffy agreed, seeing what I was hinting toward.

"That is why we believe that the child was adopted into one of the families of the nobles. Her club which she ran also had a major anonymous donor."
I displayed a graph in front of her.
"However if by fate or coincidence there were around nine noble children born between thirteen to fifteen years ago."
I knew that this rival of mine would be easier to kill as a child. Yet the sudden change from Y/N as well
as discovering the traitors in the nobles compelled me to suggest something else. I just hope it wouldn't be for nothing.

"The time to discreetly investigate this matter will take us many moons your Highness. If I could request the remaining weeks to prepare for the End Expedition, I promise you we will continue afterwards in this investigation."
I announced but felt the shiver in my voice. I made eye contact with Y/N and sent her a glare full of daggers. She smiled slightly.

My mother clenched her jaw.
"Hmph. I'm surprised that you could make such a request considering your failure."
She prodded, her distaste told the idea clearly.
"However I can not afford this exhibition to fail. We will leave in the following week."
I was relieved.
"Thank you your Highness. We will prepare as best as we can."

My mother rolled her eyes and dismissed us. I walked through the hallway listening to Y/N scrambling to keep up.
"Thanks so much Cl-"
I flipped around and glared at her.
"What. The. Hell. Was. That?"
My voice rose with every word. Her eyes furrowed in confusion.
"I'm...sorry. I just thought that if we actually went through with it all we would tamper with time and-"

"You do not get to undermine me like that."
I hissed before I clenched my jaw. A familiar fear set in the back of her eyes though she tried to hide it.
"I'm sorry. I'm just...tired of this feeling of having no control. Tired of not being able to protect my kingdom. And you."
My arms wrapped around her and I let my lips caress her head.
"I'm sorry."

A shout echoed through the hall pulling us automatically apart. We were always secret about these feelings. We were always denying what our hearts wanted.
"That sounds like your mother."
She whispered already walking away towards the noise. I fell in step with her as we ventured down the stairs to where the teenagers had been enjoying their break.

Sapnap was away with his dads at the moment so he was not there. George sat cross legged on the grass next to young me and young Y/N. My head was in her lap as she napped for a bit. George and I were talking about something. Y/N, next to present me, unconsciously rubbed her pick necklace.
I don't remember this.
My mother made her way across the garden towards the teens and a few seconds later young Clay walked behind her.

Without warning she yanked him around the pillar and shoved him to the ground. I instinctively pulled Y/N to my side to cover her view.
I don't...remember this...
"I will not have you associated with a commoner like her! You have a responsibility! One that you cannot do with your eyes set on a peasant!"
I watched in horror, holding Y/N in place even though she wriggled to interfere.

Queen Puffy knelt down to young Clay and lifted his face by his chin.
"Oh Duckling...I'm sorry. I just don't want you to be a failure. You don't want to be a failure do you?"
His mask was on floor. He picked it up and placed it over his face.
"No ma'am."
He said before walking down the hall towards his class. He held his head high the entire time.

"I don't...remember this."
I mumbled still shocked at the sight. I don't ever remember my mother hurting me. No slaps or shoves, all I remember are her words.
Don't be a failure.
Y/N tried to push me away from holding her back. I looked down at her face, the anger fuming from it.
"I do. I remember Clay. You have to let me stop it!"
Her plea so desperate in her voice.

"You self-absorbed-"
"Worthless-"
"Two timing-"
"Whore!"
The young Y/N and the Y/N currently in my arms yelled in sync. I yanked her behind the pillar and placed my hand over her mouth.
"What the hell was that for?"
I hissed but she just continued to try and pull away.

Queen Puffy glared down at the young Y/N in front of her.
"For a girl who is so powerless you sure can't keep your mouth shut."
She sneered evilly. My heart was pounding.
"For a Queen who has so much power you sure are pitiful."
Y/N spat in response.

My mother grabbed her by the collar of her robe, sweeping the thirteen year old off her feet.
"Just because I need you alive doesn't mean I need all of you. Keep your mouth shut vessel...remember that you might not be expendable but your mother is."
She growled at the teenager before putting her back down. Her E/C orbs were wide with fear.
"I want him to remember nothing of what happened. Only what I've said. Fix it."

Her robe billowed down the hall. I watched the young girl slowly fall to her knees. Y/N's face was now against my chest and she was slamming her small fists against me. Tears streaked down as she desperately tried to escape me but I couldn't let her mess with time.
Her younger self traced the guitar pick dangling from her neck. Her veins began to glow that familiar golden colour.

"Hey Clay?"
She made her way down the hallway he had.
Off to wipe my memory.
I let Y/N go. She jerked away, frowning.
"You...you wiped my memory. I didn't know you could do that."
I muttered,stunned by the fact.
"It takes way too much energy. I forgot that you never had those memories of when she hurt you. You'd think she'd behave better considering how she talks about you."

I placed my hood back on. My throat tight.
"Yeah. I think I'm starting to understand."
