Izabelle did not see Hoseok for days. He responded to her texts, assuring her he was ok. By Friday night she was really worried.
Then there he was waiting outside her last class. She slid her arms around his waist and held him for a long time.
Finally he stepped away and took her hand.
“Walk with me?” he asked and she nodded.
They walked to their favorite places on campus, talking about everything but Olivia. Finally they arrived at the courtyard of the fine arts building where he had first seen her.
She immediately knew what he wanted, what he needed. They had spent hours here talking.
She walked to the tree and settled against it, stretching her legs in front of her. Without a word he lay down beside her, his head in her lap and closed his eyes. And he began to talk.
He spilled his heart out to her, all the hurt and anger and disappointment. She gently wiped the tears as they fell, comforting him in silence.
When he seemed to run out of words she traced the angles of his face, stroking his brow, threading her fingers in his hair, touching him the way she had always wanted.
Then he shuddered, as if shaking the lingering emotions away and slowly opened his eyes. He sat to face her, his face inches from hers, her breast brushing his chest.
“ Izzy. Will you go with me? I don’t want to go alone and I don’t want to be with anyone else. We have worked really hard for this night. Will you celebrate it with me?” he asked.
She searched his face and found him sincere. She saw no trace of pity or spite. He was being truthful. This should be their celebration.
She took a deep breath and warned herself not to have any foolish hope.
This was only one night. Just for one night. All of the dreams she had for this man were impossible to fit into one night. A tiny part of her whispered “ that doesn’t mean you can’t try!”
“ Yes,” she whispered and she felt him release the breath he had been holding, “Yes.”
He rested his forehead on hers and sighed “ Thank you"
She held him until he was ready to stand and walk away from what had been.
The Governor’s Banquet was everything she hoped. Hobi was breathtaking in his dark suit. It was traditional that women wore white dresses to both the banquet and graduation.
Izzy had selected a white lace over nude tulle that fell to her calves and perfectly displayed her shoulders and neckline. Her first thought had been of Hobi when she tried it on weeks ago. She could scarcely believe she was wearing it for him tonight.
He picked her up at the apartment, Olivia having announced earlier in the week that she was spending the weekend with Theo and his friends.
She watched his face when he opened the door and saw her. He dropped the large bouquet he was holding and put his hand over his heart.
