"Ladies, let's go!" Abby yelled from inside studio A. Kianna sighed, putting in a front as she walked in. All of yesterday she couldn't think of anything other than that feeling she had experienced during the competition. It kept her up until twelve last night, causing her to be way more tired than usual."What's with your shoes?" Abby asked, her eyes trained on the knee high boots Jill was wearing. Nobody was supposed to wear their shoes on the studio floor, it was expensive and the smallest dent caused by a high heel could throw off a dancer who was wearing heeled shoes, or affect the sounds of a tap shoe.
"I'm on my toes," Jill tried to argue. "The floor is sixty-eight thousand dollars," Abby made an implied threat before facing the girls.
"All right, first I want to talk about last week. I must say I'm a little disappointed. We were outdanced by the competition. It's the energy level. You can't have a bunch of slugs on stage." Abby took a pause for suspense.
"This weekend, we will be attending Dance Explosion in Secaucus, New Jersey. You're gonna get some heavy hitters there, I'm telling you right now. I'm gonna start with the pyramid. And first..." Abby pulls off the piece of paper covering of the headshot on the bottom.
"I have Kendall. Kendall, I thought you did a nice job. You're here because your mother is way too needy." Abby critiqued, the person she was critiquing just happened to be her mother instead. "Abby, that's ri-diculous," Jill dragged out, upset that her actions had consequences that were brought out against her daughter.
Kianna tried hard not to giggle as Abby moved her from side to side in an imitation of Jill. "'Why isn't she doing a solo?' 'Why isn't she doing a duet?' 'Why doesn't she have a special part?'" Abby even changed her voice into the one Jill used when she first got on the team.
"And that's needy?" Jill questioned. "That's inquisitive. Why doesn't she have a solo? You're punishing her for something I did."
"Bingo! There you go!" Abby laughed at Jill's realization. "Moving on, we have Nia. Once again, I need to see energy. I need to see excitement. Next, we have Brooke. You're back, but..." Abby pursed her lips and shook her head.
"Is Brooke really back? Moving on. Paige, great job in the tuck. I just need to see you do that throughout all of your dancing."
"Heading up the ladder is Maddie. You danced well, but I expect more from you. Chloe, it's the same thing. Great performance onstage; you just need to learn to pick up quicker. Kianna, you danced as you always do in your solo, and I was going to say you needed to push yourself harder until I saw your duet with Cameron. It was phenomenal, filled with passion and tension. Whatever the two of you did before you got onstage, or whatever you were thinking about as you were dancing, you need to do it all the time."
Kianna smiled, though she still felt weird about what happened two days ago, it was still nice to be praised by Abby for her dancing. "And at the top of the pyramid is Mackenzie." Everyone clapped for the Ziegler girl, she had been waiting to get on the top of the pyramid for a long time.
"She won in Nutley, New Jersey. She won in Long Island, New York. Do you have another win in you for Secaucus, New Jersey?" Abby asked. "I don't know."
"We are not going to do a group routine this week," Abby stated a bit abruptly. "Each and every dancer will be doing a solo. It's every man himself. This is your chance to shine." Kianna was happy to learn that everyone would be having a solo.
