Chapter 38

Sorry for the delay, I got covid and I'm just coming out of it :)

Towards the beginning of December, Renata's father, Carlos, received clearance by the Council of Elders to arrive. Him and his small coven would be staying at the Cullen's house, and they would have to respect the treaty line when hunting. Otherwise, they were allowed to go to Emily's. They arrived to the Cullen's house a couple days before Carlos's birthday. They were received by Sam, Leah and Renata.

"¡Papi!" Renata exclaimed as Carlos came out of the car. He smiled at his daughter, and opened his arms. Renata jumped to his arms and he spun her around.

Carlos was a taller than the average Mexican man, standing at 5'9, with dark curly hair, adorned with some white hair. He had tan-ish skin, although his skin was visibly dull in colour. His eyes were amber, he seemed to have fed quite recently. Behind him stood his coven, and his mate, Angelica, was closer behind him. Angelica had strawberry blonde hair, she was slender and taller than Carlos. He had met her in his time with Carlisle, and while Renata's mom had tried to kill them both when she found out, they had a cordial relationship now. Behind them were the younger vampires, although some of them were way older when they were turned. Others were as young as Seth, barely even teenagers and stuck in those bodies for all eternity.

"Hola, hijita" Carlos smiled widely and enjoyed his daughter's warmth. When they let go, he looked at his daughter, her hair was longer than how he had last seen her, she was stronger physically, and she surely seemed to be better emotionally. 

"Mira, pa. Él es Sam, es el alpha, y ella es Leah, la próxima chamán. Sam, Leah, él es mi papá, Carlos" Renata introduced them. Carlos took a step forward and extended his hand at Sam. Sam looked at his hand for a moment before extending his own hand and shaking it. The cold skin was a shock to Sam, who had never actually touched a vampire. Then, Carlos shook Leah's hand.

"Very nice to meet you" Carlos said with a thick accent, unlike his children, Carlos was not fluid in English, he had learned after he was turned, when he met Carlisle, but he was capable of understanding perfectly and communicating, "this is my coven, Angelica, and the kids, Lupito, Scarlett, Jaime, Mónica, and the twins José Carlos y Juan Antonio" of the whole coven, Renata had never met the twins, they seemed to be about her age, and while there shouldn't have been any problem, seeing them just didn't sit right with Renata, "Jose Carlos and Juan Antonio joined the family last April. I am sure you'll get along just fine, Rena" Renata forced a smile at them.

Ten days after the vampires arrived, they were having a training session. The wolves were putting in a lot of effort to increase their speed. The goal was for them to be faster than vampires. Leah was the fastest of them all, faster than Renata even. Sam was getting there, he just had to learn to maneuver, he was just too big and it sometimes made it difficult for him to make hard turns. Jared was agile but was still lacking speed, but with training, Renata was sure he'd do just fine. Renata was worried about Paul, though, he seemed to be behind everyone else, and that visibly frustrated him.

"And Lupito wins again" Renata said as the vampire arrived to the marked tree. Lupito was an indigenous man from La Sierra Negra, he had been 76 when he was turned and while he looked physically old and worn out by years of working the land, he was the fastest in the coven, so the goal was to outrun him. Jared was second, Sam was third because he slipped in a U-turn and ended up falling to the creek, and Paul was last.

Fucking leeches, why do we have to train with them. I have nothing to prove, I'm strong, I could snap them in two with one bite. Renata heard Paul's thoughts. Leah did too, she raised her eyebrows at Renata.

"Hey guys, why don't we take a rest, we've been working real hard. Let's meet again tomorrow" Renata called. Carlos nodded, he went to kiss her head and headed back to the Cullen's house. Renata turned to walk away but she was called.
