The rest of the transformation was painless for Embry, but it was still hard to watch as his body tried to reassemble his bones. The last part of the process was fairly quick, which left Embry panting in the floor as a sleek grey wolf with dark spots, a lighter face and dark grey nose. Sam was waiting as a wolf for Embry to wake up.

Embry woke up after ten minutes, and he was scared. At first, Renata couldn't hear his thoughts, but it was clear he had many doubts. When Embry saw Sam, he panicked even more, and tried to run away, tripping his way out of the forest. Sam huffed and shook his head, and went after him. Sam growled at Embry as a warning but he kept getting away, so Sam pinned him down and grabbed Embry by the top of his neck. Renata heard Embry whimper before his thoughts echoed in her head.

What's happening? I don't want to be here, I want to go home, Embry was looking around, trying to make sense of what was happening.

"Embry, try to calm down" Renata told him. Sam let go off Embry, who stayed in the ground, in submission, "It's okay, we are here to help you" Embry looked at Renata with fear in his eyes.

Renata! What is happening? What happened to me? Embry's thoughts were fast and confused.

Try to calm down, kid. Sam's thunderous voice echoed in Embry's and Renata's heads.

Sam? Embry asked and stood up, the giant black wolf nodded.

"Do you remember the legends, Embry? About Taha Aki and the third wife?" Renata asked him, reaching with her hand to caress his soft fur at the top of his head. Embry nodded.

"They are not just stories" Paul intervened. Embry turned to look at him and Renata heard him questioning why was Paul there.

"Paul, Jared, why don't you join your new brother?" Renata told them. They nodded and went behind a tree. When they came out again, they had already phased. Jared nudged Renata on her arm and she chuckled before scratching him in between his shoulder blades, which caused Jared to smile and wag his tail.

All the legends are true, Embry. Spirit fighters, shifters, however you want to call it, vampires, too. We protect the tribe from cold ones. Sam explained as he rolled his eyes at Jared taking every opportunity to get Renata to scratch him like a dog.

"I am not gonna lie to you, Embry, it is worrying that you phased. Boys phase only when there are vampires around and there is a need to protect the tribe. With the Cullen's gone, the 'danger' should be gone as well." Leah said, Renata nodded, her friend was becoming a great guide for the pack, "Embry phasing means there is a vampire roaming around"

"Yes, we need to keep an eye not only on the vampire or vampires that could be around, but also on the young boys that could phase: Jacob, Quill... even Seth" Renata added. Leah looked at her worriedly, surely not Seth, he was only fourteen.

So you mean to tell me that vampires are real? Embry laughed.

"Don't get so high on your horse, Embry, you just grew a tail" Renata reminded him as she grabbed his fluffy tail and started playing with it. He pulled his tail away and growled at Renata. Paul immediately moved to stand in front of Renata and bared his teeth at Embry, growling. Paul was about the same height as Embry but stronger, which made him look way more intimidating, "It's okay, Paul, it was my fault" She put her hand on Paul's head and stroked his fur.

We can help you control this, Embry, if you let us. Sam interceded. He stood between Embry and Paul to break the tension.

I don't want to be this, I want to be normal! Embry exclaimed, they could all feel his frustration and anger.
