Our relationship was smooth-sailing. I didn't know if it was because we're both adults or if it's because we're already both certain that this was what we wanted, hence, we're doing everything to make it work. We're both busy with our careers, but never kaming nagreklamo dahil doon. I mean, sure, sometimes, mayroong mga cancelled na lakad, but instead of complaining about it, I actually take it as an opportunity to arrange the apartment or to catch up on sleep. Seriously, complaining about things exhausts me—lalo na if alam ko naman na hindi controlled ni Chester iyong nangyayari. Hindi naman pwede na bigla siyang umalis in the middle of his duty.

When I heard a knock on the door, I quickly went there. Mama already told me na pupunta siya rito, so there's no surprises there. Pagbukas ko ng pinto, she was holding a bouquet of fresh flowers.

"Thank you!" I said because I love fresh flowers. If hindi lang ako nagtitipid, I'd always buy fresh flowers because it just adds something to the atmosphere of the house.

"Si Chester?" Mama asked.

"Duty," I simply replied because alam na ni Mama iyon.

It had been more than a month since I moved in here. When I was trying to tell my parents about my plan na mag-move in sa apartment ni Chester, ang tagal kong nag-practice! Tapos when I finally told them about my plan, they were very chill about it.

"So... that's it?" I asked because they were weirdly casual about the fact that their favorite child was leaving the nest!

Mama and Papa both shrugged. "This is hardly surprising," Mama said. Papa nodded in agreement.

"Should I be offended?" I asked.

"Not at all," Mama said. "We just know you," she added. "Besides, you're of age. And we like Chester."

Then the conversation shifted to Mama asking me if I wanted help to decorate my new place.

"I'll see you this Friday," Mama said.

"Of course!" I replied because there's no way I'd miss her birthday celebration. Naka-plan na 'yan palagi. If may duty ako, I'd find a way para makipagpalit. So far, okay naman palagi.

"Fred's invited," Mama said. "Do you think Chester will be okay?"

Hindi agad ako nakasagot. To be completely honest, hindi ako sigurado if okay lang kay Chester. I mean, hindi naman sa gagawa siya ng scene sa birthday ni Mama... But there's a chance na tahimik lang siya kagaya nung nangyari nung mabanggit lang nang once iyong Papa niya.

It was a sore spot for him.

I wished we could discuss that... but ayoko rin kasi talaga na ipilit.

"I'll ask him," I replied.

Mama nodded. "If he doesn't want to attend, tell him it's fine. We'll just have another celebration na tayo lang na family."

I love that she sees Chester as family na rin. Alam ko hindi pa kami ganoon katagal ni Chester, but more than my boyfriend, I see him as my partner. Like what he said, I also plan to have a future with him. And I love that my family's considerate of what he'd feel if makita niya si Tito sa birthday ni Mama.

Mama didn't like cleaning kagaya ko. She basically just sat on the couch and read a magazine that she brought with her habang naglilinis naman ako. After a while, she probably got bored kaya nagpaalam na siya na aalis na siya—I was pretty sure na si Rhys naman ang guguluhin niya.

I was in the middle of preparing for my duty when the door opened. I saw Chester holding a cup of coffee.

"Is that mine?" I asked because the coffee looked like hindi pa naiinuman. Chester nodded. "Aww, thank you!" I said as I walked towards him. I got the coffee and kissed his cheek.
