Chapter 22

I was in the middle of my duty, but I kept on looking at my phone. Ngayon kasi pumunta si Chester sa bahay nila para kausapin si Tito Fred. I knew naman na hindi sila aabot sa physical disagreement, but oftentimes, verbal disagreements hurt worse. You can do a lot of damage using the right words.

Sana hindi umabot sa ganoon.

I hope... I hope they'd find a reason to be good again. I hope they find it within themselves kasi kung hindi, ayokong ipilit sa kanila. Matanda na silang dalawa. At the end of the day, it's still their choice and no one else's.

"Hey!" I said when I saw Chester. I wanted to ask him about his dad, but I wanted it to come from him.

"Pa-start na ko," he told me, yawning, because he just pulled a double shift dahil may nakipagpalit sa kanya. Chester told me that before, he'd have no problem with people switching shifts with him dahil preferred naman daw niya na nasa hospital. But he also said na nowadays, he's choosy na raw. Kapag emergency lang siya pumapayag kasi mas gusto niya na nasa apartment kasama ko. Kainis. Kilig ako!

"Kumain ka na?"

He nodded. "Sa bahay," he said.

I just nodded my head, not really wanting to say anything, but really wanting him to exound more. He was looking at me. He gently shook his head as I pouted. He really knew me. Alam niya na gusto kong marinig, pero ayokong magtanong.

"I told him that he didn't need to offer anything kagaya nung sa parents mo," he said. I bit my lower lip. "But that if he wants to be a part of the baby's life, I'd be okay with that."

My eyes widened a little. "Really?"

Chester shrugged. "Just because he was a horrible father does not mean that he'd be a horrible grandpa, right?"

I bit my lower lip harder. "Chester..."

"What?" he asked. "I think he's not a psycho who'd be mean to a baby."

I sighed. "Okay," I replied as I nodded. I mean, at the very least, this was an improvement... I think? At least pwede naman palang hawakan ni Tito Fred iyong hypothetical baby namin.

"I'm trying," he said.

"I know," I replied with a smile. I reached for his hand and held it tightly.

He stayed for a while before he had to leave dahil start na rin ng duty niya. I figured he'd be busy for quite a while because this was the season na maraming happening sa department niya. I felt like sa isang araw pa ulit kami magkikita unless bigla siyang susulpot sa department ko or pupunta ako sa kanya.

After my shift, I headed home because I had been on my feet the entire day. I cleaned myself first and then proceeded to the bed for a much needed rest. I woke up hours later and I began to clean the house while deciding kung ano ang gusto kong kainin. It's so hard to decide! Nung nasa bahay kasi I would just eat whatever's available na ginawa nila Manang. I miss being a full time daughter.

The next few days consisted of working and going to different appointments. After visiting different doctors, Chester and I finally decided to settle with Dr. Irene.

"I'm tired," I told Chester as I rested my head on his shoulder. "I feel like I can sleep for a week."

I felt him kissing the top of my head. "Tulog ka muna," he said. "Anong gusto mong dinner?"

"You?" I replied.

"Hindi ako pagkain."

I looked at him and frowned. "I mean you as in ano ang gusto mong food?" I asked. "Your mind, Chester, is in the gutter."
