CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
victimizing villains always prevail
_______________________________
1980.
The moonlit dining room, pink and gold metallic balloons scattered evenly throughout the room. Party banners dangling from the left side of the wall—to the right side. Melina Revora standing with her ear glued to the telephone, her back against the counter. That was all Nova Delarouz could see from around the corner. She may've not been able to capture a good glimpse. But she did, however, perceive enough information to become menacing, to Valerie, and maybe even her mother! Poor Valerie. She never had any idea of what was soon to take place! Sending you the best of luck, Val.

Currently, Valerie had been updating Dustin on the breaking news of Hawkins, since he's been gone. Selina, on the other hand, was re-applying the same cherry flavored lip gloss every five seconds. Valerie thought it was a waste of product, but also found it kind of weird, considering they were only going to the mall.

"Oh, my God. I completely forgot to tell you, Dustin. Okay, so, you remember how I was telling you about my mom, and how she always stayed in Michigan for work?" Valerie asked, trying to re-jog his memory. "Oh, God. What happened, now?" Dustin questioned. "That lady decided to take a break, and I quote, 'for herself '. Can you believe that shit?" Valerie shook her head. "That's such bullshit. She's practically saying 'yeah I have a daughter back in Indiana. But I deserved a break from work, so I'm only coming back for myself.' " Dustin mimicked Melina. "Exactly!" Valerie nodded in agreement. "Whatever. She's always out drinking anyways." Valerie shrugged. "Okay, okay. Enough about me. Tell me everything. I wanna have the privilege to say that I got to hear everything before Steve." Valerie turned to look at Dustin. "No, wait. Save it until there's ice cream." Valerie put a finger up at him. the Starcourt mall coming in sight.

Selina's eyes lit up as soon as the three of them walked inside of the mall. Luckily, Scoops Ahoy was on the bottom floor of the mall, meaning that Valerie wouldn't have to take the escalator. They all began walking towards Scoops Ahoy, well.. that's what they thought. As soon as Valerie turned to look at Selina, she could see Selina from the corner of her eye, admiring the purses that they had on display at a different shop. "Selina!" Both Valerie and Dustin called out. Selina rolled her eyes, grumpily catching up with the two.

Valerie, Selina, and Dustin spied on the shop from the wall behind one of the booths. "All clear. He's not there." Valerie announced. "Okay. What's the plan?" Dustin asked. Valerie hummed, looking around the shop. "Shit. This is the only booth that's available." Valerie pointed to the booth in front of them. "Okay, okay. This booth is definitely gonna be taken by the time you surprise Steve. So.. me and Selina will save the booth, while you walk up to Robin and ask for Steve." Valerie explained. "Robin? Who's Robin?" Dustin asked. "That girl, right there." She nudged her head towards Robin's direction. Dustin turned to look for Robin, finding everyone but Robin. "No, not there." Valerie shook her head, turning his head towards the right direction. "Oh, okay. Got it." Dustin nodded. "Ready, set, go!" Valerie lightly shoved Dustin, Selina and Valerie rushing to get the last booth. As Valerie was sliding herself onto the right side of the booth, Selina accidentally collided into Valerie, their heads bumping together. Selina winced in pain, considering she already had a headache. "Jesus, Val!" Selina held her head. "It's not my fault! You practically purposely slammed your head onto mine." Valerie defended herself.
