Chapter 4: That look in your eye

We decided to split off into 2 cars. Mine and Steve's. Dustin, Max and Robin went with Steve, leaving me and my brother in my car.

"So do you know where we are going?" I ask Danny but he shakes his head.

"Not really. Guess you'll just have to keep following them."

The car journey is quiet and all I can focus on is finding Eddie. I mean, it's not as if we are close. We have barely spoken before. But I can't help but have the urge to help him.

Eventually, we pull up outside a house which is next to a lake. The house looks pretty run down and abandoned.

We all rush towards the car and bang on the door.

"Hey Reefer Rick?! Hello..." Dustin shouts but is soon silenced.

I close my eyes for a moment, trying to connect to everything around me. In my vision I see a boat house. When I open my eyes, I see the same place just beside a large lake.

"Over there." I draw everyone's attention towards the boat house.

"You sure?" Steve asks and I nod my head.

"Oh trust me, I'm sure." I let out a small laugh. My brother looks at me as if to say 'what are you doing?' but I ignore him.

We both know that no one knows about my abilities but at this point, I'm only focused on finding their friend.

We quietly make our way down to the boat house, careful not to make too much noise.

"Eddie? Eddie, are you here?" Dustin whisper shouts into the building but gets no response.

I close my eyes again to try and figure out where Eddie might be but before I get any sort of vision, I hear a scream coming from across the room.

"Eddie! Eddie stop! That's Steve! He's with us! We are here to help!" Dustin shouts as the rest of us stand in shock

Eddie turns to look at Dustin, then the others, then me. When we make eye contact, I can see that he's scared. Frightened.

His eyes widen and he looks back at Steve, letting go of him. Eddie cowers into the side of the room and tries to make himself as small as possible.

"You've seen something... haven't you? That look in your eyes, I know it too well." I say, taking a step foward.

Eddie's eyes widen in fear so I hold up my hands to show him no harm.

"Hey, I'm not gonna hurt you. You've met me, remember? My name is Y/N L/N. Danny's my little brother. I'm sorry I startled you. I just want to know what you saw." I say, taking a few careful steps towards him.

He looks up at me, shaking in fear before looking back down at his hands.

"Y-you wouldn't believe me."

"Try us."

He looks up at each of us before taking a shaky breath.

"Her body just... lifted up into the air. And she just... hung there." He starts, his bottom lip shaking. He must be talking about the girl, Chrissy, I think her name was.

"A-and... her- her bones... started to snap." He continues, sounding more terrified by the second.

"Oh god..." I whisper under my breath, feeling sick at the thought.

He keeps explaining exactly what happened. The look in his eyes being nothing but pure terror.

"I didn't know what to do so... I ran away. I left her... god I sound crazy." He sobs and my heart clenches for him.

"No. No I don't think your crazy-"

"Don't bullshit me man! I know how this sounds!" Eddie finally snaps, turning his head to look away from us.

"We're not bullshitting you." Max adds.

I slowly walk towards Eddie as does Dustin. I wait for him to make eye contact until I speak, to show how much we are telling the truth.

"She's right Eddie. There are things here, in Hawkins, that shouldn't be here. There are so many indescribable things that have happened that one person can not comprehend. You have to believe us." I look him in the eyes.

I can tell he is indecisive and doesn't know what to believe at this point.

"You know how people say Hawkins is cursed? Well... they're not way off." Dustin says and Eddie looks up at him with tears in his eyes.

"It was like she was under a spell..."

"Or cursed."

Eddie snaps his head to look at Danny who walks up beside me.

"A curse?"

"Vecna's curse." Danny says, a serious tone in his voice.

They begin explaining about who Vecna is and what his abilities are. They're using D&D to explain it all. Just like what happened with the Demogorgan a few years ago.

"We can't go one second without something bad happening can we?" Steve walks up beside me.

"This is Hawkins we are talking about. Nothing has ever been normal. Especially for me." I say.

Steve gives me a questioning look but I say nothing. I pull down my sleeve to hide the tattoo on my arm.

"Holy shit. We've got some investigating to do." Robin says and the others start to leave the boat house.

"Wait! You can't just leave me here!" Eddie exclaims, standing up and walks over to us.

"Then come with us." Dustin says but Eddie just shakes his head.

Everyone looks at each other in silence until I speak up.

"Then I'll stay."

They all whip their heads around to look at me in confusion.

"Nope! No way!" Steve says but all I do is stare at them.

"Guys I can protect both myself and Eddie. There's something Danny and I haven't told you." I start.

When no one responds, I sigh, pulling up my sleeve.

"Years ago, I knew one of your friends. Number Eleven. I came from the same place as her. I was allowed to see my mum but she eventually took me away. She told me my dad left us so I have no idea who he is. But I can protect us both." I say.

"Holy shit..." Dustin says.

Everyone's eyes widen in shock, leaving poor Eddie confused.

"Uh... what's going on?" He asks.

"Nothing. Okay fine, Y/N stays with Eddie for protection."

They all agree before leaving. I hug my brother, saying goodbye.

"Stay safe, okay?"

He nods, leaving with the others.

Leaving Eddie and I... alone.
