Chapter 5: Some time alone

After everyone left, Eddie and I just stare at the floor awkwardly.

"So... we should really head inside. It's getting quite cold out here." I say, walking towards the exit. However, I stop once I notice that Eddie isn't following me.

I stop and walk back over to him. He looks up from the floor, a scared look in his eye.

"Hey... I know it's a lot to take in but we will get through this. We will find out what is happening. I promise. I'm sorry about what happened to the girl you liked." I say to him.

He just shakes his head.

"I didn't like her. Not like that. She was an old... we went to the same middle school." He says, not really knowing how to respond.

Oh... good to know. I mean, it's not as if I have a chance with him anyway but...

"Come on Y/N." Eddie gives me a tight lipped smile and walks out of the boat house.

I quickly follow behind him, not wanting to leave him on my own. He's not exactly used to all this stuff that goes on in Hawkins. Plus, I feel like I need to protect him with my life.

Once we make it inside the house, Eddie slumps down on the sofa and sighs.

Oh shit... I didn't tell mum where I am.

"Hey Eddie, I need to make a quick call. I'll be right back." I say and he nods with a small smile which warms my heart.

His smile could light up the whole world.

I quickly rush to find the phone and I dial in my house telephones number. The line rings for a few moments but soon my mum picks up.

"Hey mum, sorry I didn't call sooner. I'm with a friend." I say. It wasn't exactly a complete lie.

"Hey sweetie, you sound worried. Is... somethings happening again... isn't it?" My mum replies.

"Yeah... I'm sorry mum. I have to protect my friend Eddie. He isn't used to all of this. Everybody thinks he was the one to kill that girl. He wasn't, trust me. I have to be here to protect him." I sigh.

The line is quiet for a moment before my mum sighs too.

"Okay sweetie. Just please be careful. I know you will be. Just come back in one piece please." She says and I nod despite her not being able to see.

"I will mum. I promise. Now I need to get back to protecting Eddie." I say, looking at the doorway.

My mum laughs on the other end of the phone. I raise my eyebrow at her in confusion.

"You like this... Eddie, don't you?" She asks with a knowing tone.

Busted.

"Well not really. We only really just met not long ago." I laugh nervously. Obviously mum could tell I was lying but she didn't say anything.

"Okay sweetie. Call me when you can okay? Stay out of trouble." She laughs.

We end up our call and I put the phone down with a sigh. I walk back into living room to see Eddie fast asleep on the sofa.

I smile a bit, finally knowing that he's able to get some rest. I pick up a nearby blanket and gently lay it over him, trying not to wake him.

He shifts in his sleep and smiles slightly.

How adorable.

I stand by the curtain and take a look out the window. It looks creepy outside. I mean, we are basically in the middle of nowhere.

I sigh, walking over to the sofa and sitting on the floor, placing my back up against it. I close my eyes and try to relax for a moment.

"Y/N... hey, Y/N..."

I blink open my eyes, getting woken up before I could even fall asleep.

"Hey... what's up? You alright?" I look at Eddie who is looking at me, still laying down on the sofa.

"Yeah... thank you."

I'm taken back by his words.

"Why are you thanking me? I want to be here Eddie. It's not as if you're the one making me stay. Well... you kinda are because I want to protect you." I give him a smile with a slight laugh.

Eddie laughs along and lays his head back down on the sofa, a wide smile on his face. The same smile which gives me butterflies.

"Come here." Eddie laughs, lifting up the blanket so I could lay next to him.

I have no idea if there is enough room for two of us on the sofa but it's gonna be comfier than the floor.

I climb under the blanket next to him, his chest against my back. I can feel his soft breathing against my neck. I shiver slightly and Eddie places an arm over me, pulling me closer to him.

"You seem cold. Just trying to help you out darling."

I could tell that's not the reason he did that. But I just melt into his touch, finally falling into a deep sleep.
