For redacted, who's fierce grace and independence challenge me to meet every instance of blunt honesty and lingering aversion with their same grace, hope, and joy. Some journeys justify their struggle.

I wrote this book because I just couldn't say all the things in it. They are important to me and you are important to me. Your opinion is this important to me. I knew writing may be my best chance - my only chance to tell you how I've felt, to meaningfully apologize, and to again seek an enduring friendship.
Although I feel like we should talk over lunch or drinks, or just hang out sometime (not code for anything), I mostly want to get back to our baseline. I've wasted enough time and my portfolio has lost enough value. This is not and has never been a conquest; it's an entreaty, and one I hope you'll actually enjoy reading.
I hope to one day read something you've written and would do so in earnest.

I'm so grateful to everyone who has steered me toward this form of expression and ultimately publication. Because of them, I may one day have a book or two in print, though that was never my goal.
I thank my fellow writers and lovers of poetry, stories, and language. Without them there would be no poetry to share. Their support keeps my hopes aloft and my dreams alive, but this book was never for them. I wrote it for you.
