Chapter 7

Sophia POV

The next couple weeks passed by in relative peace. I went to school, the internship and home. Over and over again. It seemed that despite my new, paying job, Ms L still needed to beat the living shit out of me every couple days. Last night was worse than usual because in the midst of it She stepped on my backpack. She didn't seem to question anything and didn't even look like she noticed that she had.

The second she let me go I got my bag and went to my room. I dug through my bag to get my phone and hearing aids. When I found my phone it was fine. no cracks and it worked just fine. My hearing aids were a different story. They sat in their box and when I grabbed it I saw that the box was battered and dented. This did not make me feel better. I opened the box and saw my hearing aids shattered. I gasped and ran my finger over them. earning a small cut for my movements. what am I supposed to do now I think. My next paycheck was in a couple days so all I had to do was to survive until then. Or make new ones.

I woke up the next morning and left to get to school. I had been thinking of when to tell Mama spider I was deaf so I started texting her.

Sophia: GM guys

Peter: gm u on ur way to school

Sophia: yup

Mama spider: Pay attention to the road

Sophia: ty for the concern but ill be fine

Mama spider: still pay attention

Peter: Yea Soph

U might not hear the cars coming

Sophia: oh I won't

They broke last night

Mama spider: what broke

Peter: Will you get your first paycheque in a couple so it'll be fine

Sophia: yeah ig

Mama spider: are you guys just going to ignore me

Peter: yup

I then got a private message from Mama spider.

Mama spider: if u don't want to tell me that's fine

I'll drop it

I take a deep breath and calm myself. I am ready to tell her. I just hope she won't get mad or treat me differently.

Sophia: I'm deaf

What broke was my hearing aids

Mama spider: Ty for trusting me enough to tell me

Sophia: that's why I was all weird with the music question

Mama spider: I get it

U don't have to explain

While this is happening, Peter is blowing up the other chat looking for us.

Peter: soph u there

Sophia

Oh u two r talking

Do you want me to stop

I'll stop now

Shit I just said I'd stop

Ok last one

Soph I'm on my way

I'll stop completely now
