Inferiority.

An intense feeling of inadequacy, often resulting in the belief that one is in some way deficient, or inferior, to others.

A lot of people have felt this exact thing.

But of course, you can't feel inferior to everyone.

They can't be far removed from your everyday life—world famous scientists, researchers, athletes, actors... you wouldn't feel inferior to these people.

But what about individuals who are in your close circle?

Family members, friends, teachers, fellow colleagues or students...

It is very likely you have felt some glimmer of inferiority towards them.

However, the question remains—

how is inferiority born?

Where does it come from?

What are its origins?

It can be developed from a very early age. Encounters during childhood may already be enough. Constantly hearing disapproving remarks about a certain behavior can have long-term effects on a child's psyche.

But that is only a piece of the whole puzzle.

Inferiority is a wild beast that continuously claws away at the mind—

it can be born from a single encounter.

...

You believe you are the best at something.

You train and train and train and train and train.

All just to become the best, stay at the top and crush the competition.

And then... someone else comes along.

And that someone else beats you.

Destroys all your efforts. Hopes. Dreams. Wishes.

You don't know who that someone else is, how long they needed to work to get where they are right now or how many sacrifices they had made.

The only thing you know about them is..

that they beat you.

You feel defeated.

Despair creeps up your spine. Your vision darkens.

You start to doubt yourself.

"Why didn't I win?"

"I trained so hard..."

"How did they do that!?"

"I'm.. not good enough"

"They're far better than me..."
