"His name is d'Artagnan." Dustin showed the group taking him out of his makeshift cage "Cute, right?
"D'Artagnan?" Mike asked
"Dart for short."
"And he was in our trash?" Y/n asked grossed out
"Foraging for food." Dustin nodded looking at max "You wanna hold him?,
"No, no." She shook her head
"He doesn't bite."
"I don't want to..." Max tried to deny but dustin gave it to her anyway "Oh, God, he's slimy!"
She passed it to lucas "Ugh, he's like a living booger."
He handed it to y/n "ew no I don't want it"
She passed it to will "Ugh, oh, God!"
He passed it to Mike "who just looked at it what is he?"
"My question exactly." Dustin looked at the slime ball in mikes hands, they put it away and Dustin grabbed books "At first, I thought it was some type of pollywog."
"Pollywog?" max questioned
"It's another word for tadpole." Dustin explained "A tadpole is the larval stage of a toad."
"I know what a tadpole is."
"All right, then you know that most tadpoles are aquatic, right?" Dustin questioned and they nodded "Well, Dart, he isn't. He doesn't need water."
"Yeah, but aren't there nonaquatic pollywogs?" Y/m gave him a look
"Terrestrial pollywogs?" Dustin looked her way "Yep. Two to be exact. Indirana semipalmata. And the Adenomera andreae. One's from India, one's from South America. So how did one end up in my trash?"
"Maybe some scientists brought it here, and it escaped?" Max offered
"Do you guys see that?" Y/n asked looking closer at dart "looks like something is moving inside of it."
Mike moved the light and it made the creature screech causing them to jump as it almost fell off the table but dustin caught it "Whoa. It's okay. It's okay. I got you, little guy. I know you don't like that. It's okay. And there's another thing. Reptiles, they're cold-blooded. Ectothermic, right? They love heat, the sun. Dart hates it. It hurts him."
"So, if he's not a pollywog or a reptile..." Lucas started
"Then I've discovered a new species." Dustin smiled at them but then the bell rang signaling that they had to leave
"We gotta show him to Mr. Clarke." Mike told Dustin as they all walked out
"What if he steals my discovery?"
"He's not gonna steal your discovery"Y/n followed them seeing as the door was on their way
"You know, I'm thinking about calling it Dustonious pollywogus." Dustin smiled
"What do you think?"
"I think you're an idiot."
"You know When I become rich and famous for this one day, don't come crawling back, saying, 'Oh, my God, Dustin, I'm so sorry for being mean to you back in 8th grade. Oh, my God.' "
Y/n noticed will stuck behind "you okay?"
"It's about d'Artagnan."
