A few days had passed and my wound was beginning to heal. It only hurt when I applied pressure to it, otherwise I was fine. I had just finished taking a shower and I slipped on some clothes when I caught the whiff of something delicious. Curiously, I peered into the kitchen to see Amanda making burgers.

I strolled into the living room and plopped down on the sofa. A loose spring popped up, so I pushed it back in. As a result, a few other springs popped up. It felt like I was playing whack-a-mole because every time I pushed one spring back in, another one would pop up.

"If you're done playing around, I made lunch," Amanda said glumly as she entered the living room with a tray of burgers.

"Good, because I'm starving."

She thrusted the tray into my hands. "Here, I made Sloppy Joe's because I feel sloppy," she grumbled before taking a seat beside me.

"Or is it because you found a new boyfriend and his name is Joe?" I inquired. "Is this your inconspicuous way of letting me in on the secret?"

That one earned me a smack on the back of my head.

"Did you really have to smack me?" I grumbled.

Amanda narrowed her eyes at me. "It wasn't me, moron."

"Stop lying," I spat.

"Shut up, you littler twerp! It wasn't me," she growled.

All of a sudden, we heard a bark of masculine laughter. "God, you should've seen your face, Amanda. You looked like you were ready to kill Nick!" Keaton clapped his hands together as he laughed, resembling a walrus to a T.

"How did you even get in here?" Amanda demanded.

Keaton leapt over the sofa and sat between Amanda and I. "You guys should seriously lock your door."

She gave him a pointed look. "The door was locked."

Keaton smiled sheepishly. "You should probably get a new door."

We looked at our front door to see that the doorknob was on the ground. "The last time I checked, I'm pretty certain the doorknob was actually on the door," I pointed out.

Amanda scowled at Keaton. "You broke our doorknob?"

"It was an accident!" he testified. "I thought the knob was just old, so I added some force when I was opening the door."

"You added some force? My ass," Amanda scoffed.

Keaton's eyebrows raised skywards. "What died in your pants?"

"She's been in a shitty mood. Don't make it worse," I warned.

"Is that how girls are like when they're on their period?" Keaton whispered to me.

Amanda gawked at Keaton and then punched him in the arm. "Shut up, asshole!"

Keaton clutched his arm and winced in pain. "It scares me how alike you two are."

Amanda looked at us suspiciously. "And what's that supposed to mean?"

"Keaton and I play fight a lot," I answered swiftly. "I'm really good at it, too."

Instead of making a snide remark, Amanda groaned out loud. "As if being stuck at home with you isn't bad enough, your loser friend has to come over, too? I'd rather you invite the nerd over."

Keaton's jaw slacked. "Here I was, thinking that you loved me, Amanda. Come on, we're practically siblings!"

"Thank God we're not," she said with an eye roll.
