"I can't believe you woke me up before noon, on a Saturday, just so I could visit your grandmother with you," I grumbled.
Keaton grinned at me. "Lighten up, pal. This will be so much fun!"
I blinked in confusion. "I thought you hated your grandmother."
Keaton laughed. "Believe me, I do."
"Then why are you-"
"Keaton!" his grandmother cried, engulfing him into a hug.
"Hi, Grandma," Keaton said with false enthusiasm. It wasn't that hard to detect: I mean, come on! The guy was speaking in a monotone for crying out loud!
When Keaton's grandmother pulled away from him, she looked at me in surprise. "Nicholas, is that you?"
I plastered a smile on my face. "Hi, Lorraine."
"Come here and give me a hug!" she exclaimed. Lorraine pulled me in for a bone crushing hug. Damn, for an old woman she sure was strong!
"I can't breathe," I mouthed to Keaton, after feeling all of the oxygen drain out of me.
"All right, Grandma, that's enough." Keaton pulled me away from his grandmother's grasp, which I was incredibly grateful for.
"So tell me, how's school going?" she asked.
Keaton took a seat beside his grandmother. "School's okay...I guess," he answered with a shrug.
"I wasn't talking to you! I was talking to Nicholas." Lorraine slapped Keaton's arm. "Let Nicholas sit down! Don't you know anything about being a good host?" she chastised. Keaton mumbled some profanities under his breath, but he reluctantly stood up. "What was that?" Lorraine demanded. "How dare you say those words in the presence of a lady?"
Keaton muttered something which I couldn't quite catch, but I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of, "I don't see any lady here."
"Why don't you sit down, dear?" Lorraine offered to me. I didn't want to get on her bad side, so I sat in Keaton's previous seat, earning a glare from him. "Keaton, go make us some tea," Lorraine told him with a wave of her hand. Like the mature seventeen-year-old he is, Keaton stomped into the kitchen. Lorraine rolled her eyes. "All I asked for was a somewhat decent grandson, but I got stuck with him instead."
I couldn't help but chuckle. "Oh, Lorraine, you never cease to amuse me."
Lorraine smiled at me. "I wish you were my grandson instead, Nicholas. You are such a poised, young gentleman."
I wasn't sure whether to take poised as a compliment or an insult.
"Gee thanks, Grandma," Keaton said sarcastically. He marched into the living room and gave a cup of tea to Lorraine and then one to me.
I couldn't help but eye the teacup suspiciously. "Did you spit in it?"
Keaton scowled at me. "Maybe."
"Keaton," Lorraine scolded. "Go get Nicholas a fresh cup of tea." Keaton angrily yanked the teacup out of my hand and walked away. "And don't scowl!" Lorraine called after him. "Your face will be stuck like that!"
I laughed at that. "Like I said before, you never cease to amuse me, Lorraine."

"Are you coming back?" Lorraine asked.
"You're acting like I have a choice, Grandma," Keaton deadpanned.
"I was talking to Nicholas!"
