Y/N was Will and Jonathan's cousin who lived in Malibu, the siblings visited Y/N quite a lot and she made a lot of effort to visit them both in Hawkins whenever she would get the chance. This particular summer Y/N decided that she was going to spend the whole duration in Hawkins, it made sense since all her friends were off getting ready to move away for college and she didn't want to spend her summer alone so she thought it would be a good idea to live with her cousins for a while and the pair were over the moon when she told them both about her plan.
When Y/N got to Hawkins it was a hot summer day the weather was almost unbearably hot for most but since Y/N lived in a very warm part of America she was used to it by now, Jonathan picked Y/N up along with Will and El on the very first day of the summer holidays and that was three weeks ago. Y/N spent her days with Jonathan's girlfriend Nancy since the two of them got on very well and spoke almost every day on the phone when Y/N was back home in Malibu. Y/N got herself a job in Hawkins she worked in the jewellery shop in the local mall, it was a nice sophisticated place and paid good money so Y/N was very happy about that.
The jewellery shop was right next door to Scoops Ahoy where Steve and Robin worked so whenever she was on her break Y/N would go next door and spend time with the duo in their work place,
"Hey Robin you taking your break?" Y/N asked as she flipped her hair over her shoulder so it fell down her back
"No." Robin huffed in annoyance "But Steve has literally just gone on break so he's in the back." Robin told Y/N so she smiled at her friend and walked behind the counter, she pushed open the door and found Steve eating a small bowel of the ice cream that he chose to have
"Hey Harrington." Y/N smiled
"Hey Y/N, come to see me?" He asked with a smirk
"Actually I came to see if Robin was on her break but since she's not I suppose I'll have to settle for you." Y/N retorted as she sat opposite Steve at the table
"Ouch(?!)" Steve said sarcastically, Y/N took the spoon from the bowel and picked up a little bit of ice cream from it before placing it in her mouth,
"You always get chocolate you need to change it up." Y/N said
"It's a classic." Steve defended
"Yeah. For an old man— oh wait." Y/N smirked,
"You're only two month younger than me." Steve huffed
"Precisely, making you the old man Steve." Y/N laughed and so did he
"So how long are you staying in Hawkins for?" Steve asked Y/N as he also ate some of the ice cream.
"The whole summer and then I'll go back to Malibu a few days after school starts again." Y/N told him
"Can't you just— I don't know, move to Hawkins?" He asked her
"Aw will you miss me too much when I leave?" Y/N teased and Steve just rolled his eyes
"What's actually keeping you in Malibu anyway?" Steve asked "It's not like you have a boyfriend back there or anything." He said
"Who's to say that I don't?" Y/N asked Steve seriously.
"Wait? You actually do have a boyfriend?" Steve asked quickly and Y/N laughed while shaking her head
"No but I did have. His name was Mason we broke up just before I came here." Y/N admitted
"Oh sorry."
"Don't be. He was a douche, I was so blinded by the idea of that I was in love with him that I was just letting things slide that I normally would have a problem with. He wasn't a very nice person towards the end of our relationship so the whole thing just fell apart." Y/N explained casually "You should come visit me in Malibu sometime time, I think you'd really like it there."
"Yeah maybe." Steve smiled
"At least there you'll have a chance with girls who don't already know what you're like." Y/N joked which made Steve laugh
"I'm not interested in talking to girls." Steve told Y/N who was shocked.
"Wow has Steve Harrington got a little crush?"
"You could say that." He laughed
"What's she like? Tell me everything, is she nice?" Y/N asked as she leaned back in her chair.
"Yeah she's amazing. She's funny but I don't even think she means to be, she has this sparkle about her that just doesn't go away and everybody seems to love her."
"Including you?"
"Yeah. Especially me." Steve smiles to himself
"Well I hope she knows how special she is to have someone like you pining after her Steve, whoever she is, she couldn't do any better than having you for a boyfriend." Y/N said truthfully to her friend
"You mean that?" Steve asked
"Of course I do."
'Y/N! Katie is here!' Robin called out meaning that Y/N's break was over so she stood up from the chair and walked over to the door to lead her back to the main area of the ice cream parlour
"Y/N?" Steve said to his friend
"Yeah?" She turned to look at him
"See you around." Steve bottled out of what he was originally going to say
"See you around Harrington, and remember tell that girl what you think of her." Y/N smiled before leaving the back room
