Goodbye Byers

-Y/N's pov-

It's been 3 months since the 'mall fire', everything's going great, Max is a little distant, me and Will have hung out more. He revealed to me that he has a huge crush on Mike, no surprise there. Me and Mike haven't argued as much, and me and Dustin are still as close as ever. Lucas is still his usual funny self.

There is some not so fun things though. The byers are moving. Hopper didn't make it out.

I woke up super late and nobody told me they were leaving so I had to skate there. I dropped my bored in front of the the byers house and ran up to the porch

"Hey Johnathan!" I shouted before entering the house

"Hey Y/N." He said as he put a mattress down in the U-haul truck, Nancy on the other side

I ran inside and went to the living room

"Turn around, look at what you seeeee in her face the mirror of your dreamssss rhymes that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds!" Max and Lucas sang as Dustin sat in front of a box

"Woah, hey, what's going on?" I said leaning on the door frame

"did we get that verse right?" Max asked

"Yeah." I nodded and laughed a bit

"Y/N you're supposed to be on my side!" Dustin whined

"Mm-hmm." I hummed walking over and ruffling his hair

"but they're butchering it." Dustin crossed his arms and huffed

"So then join in, 'Dusty-bun'" Lucas blew air kisses and looked at me

"I called him that once, asshat." I crossed my arms

"Yeah, come on, Dusty-bun, why don't you join us?" Max ignored me

"You guys are so funny, you should be on Carson." Dustin said in a monotone voice

"Can't we just hear your rendition?" Max asked

"No."

"Please? Just one verse?"

"No. No way. It's reserved for Y/N's ears and Y/N's ears only." Dustin frowned

"She's right there, though!" Lucas pointed at me

"Y/N's ears alone." He said

Max and Lucas looked at eachother for a second "Turn around look at what you seeee" they sang

"Oh, please, You guys suck. It's Turn around look at what you seeeeee in their face" I started singing

Lucas clapped along and max laughed. Dustin flipped all of us off

"you're killing it Y/N!" Lucas laughed as I continued to sing

"Come on Dust, I'll stop when you sing. ♫ The mirror of your dreeeaaammms ♫"

"I'll make you stop then." He stood up and walked over to me

"make believe I'm everywhere, hidden im the lines" I kept singing

"3 seconds. You have 3 seconds." He crossed his arms

"Written on the pages in the answer to a never ending storyyy" I continued singing

"Alright then." He ran at me

"Oh, shit!" I attempted dodged not realizing he was going to run at me again, he wrapped his arms around my torso and lifted me up

"I'll put you down when you agree to shut up." He said simply

"ok, that's fine. Reach the stars, and fly a fantasy" I sang, then he stared jumping around "Ok! Ok! I give up!"

"Yeah that's what I thought." He said putting me down

"Asshole." I mumbled walking out the room to go help Will

"Y/N, you'll call right?" Will spoke suddenly as we packed up the last few boxes for his room

"Of course, I'll write, I'll call, maybe even send you a few drawings." I said looking at him

"Everyday?" he asked

"Everyday that I can, you'll just have to send the first letter. I won't know your address until after you send it to me, and I definitely won't know your phone number." I sighed

"I think I'm gonna miss you the most. You're the best friend I could ever have, you know? " Will said sadly

"Better than Mike?"

"Mmmm, maybe not better than Mike." Will chuckled

"I'm really gonna miss you. We all will." I said as a tear rolled down my cheek

"Promise to visit one day?"

"I'll try. I'm a little scared of planes." I smiled. He laughed a bit

It was time, time for them to leave us. I'm not usually the type to show strong emotions in front of others, but this was different. This was family

Tears poured out as I hugged El

"Remember to write to me, ok. No secrets." I said softly pulling away from the hug, I kept my hands on her shoulders.

"No secrets." She smiled as she wiped away a tear from her face

El went to hug Dustin and I turned to Will "Thought you'd get away without a hug?"

"Wasn't planning on it." He said just before hugging me. As I hugged him I noticed Joyce standing next to the u-haul

I let go of Will as I noticed her about go walk away "Tell your mom I'm gonna miss her. She was like a mother to me, too." Will nodded and went to say bye to everyone else

We all stood with our backs facing the house, we watched as the U-haul drove away. I grabbed Dustin's hand and wiped tears with my other hand. I slid my thumb under his bracelet as we watched the truck get further and further away.

We stood there until we couldn't see it anymore. Tears running dry but that didn't mean the hurt was gone.

"They're really gone." I let out, my voice was small and broken. It felt like a piece of me was leaving with them. El was like a sister to me, the only sister that was my age. Johnathan was like the big brother that I had always wanted. Joyce was like a mother at the times my mom couldn't be.

And Will was one of my first friends ever, he always came to me when he had a problem. He came to me for advice, he came to me for comfort. And sure he went to Mike for some of those things but not all of them.

Dustin wrapped his arm around my shoulders in a comforting way, I knew he could tell I wanted to cry so much more than I already have.

"I think it's time to go." Dustin said softly

"Yeah." Lucas said picking up his bike

Everyone got on their bikes and I grabbed my skateboard as Lucas, Max, and Mike road off I stayed back. I turned to face the house, the house I had made so many memories in.

"Y/N, you coming?" Dustin called from the end of the driveway

I looked at him quickly then back at the house "Yea!"
