It seemed each time Sister Imperator called an impromptu meeting, Dahlia felt more nervous than the last one. Even though Dew had tried to reassure her it was most likely nothing, her anxiety was through the roof. Her turtleneck seemed extremely tight and the corridor always seemed to be shrieking with each step. Soon enough, the woman reached the door and took a few deep breaths before entering.

Sister Imperator briefly looked up from the pile of paperwork before gesturing to the seat across the desk. The radio was playing the Seven Inches of Satanic Panic in the background which wasn't helping ease the tension in the room. Dahlia attempted a weak smile while sitting at the edge of the plush chair.

"Good morning, Sister-" Dahlia was cut off instantly by the harsh look in the woman's eyes. Obviously it hadn't been a great morning to one of them...

"Do you think I'm dumb, Miss Amato?" Sister Imperator questioned. Dahlia titled her head contemplating where this was going and fear flashed through her. She had found out, didn't she?

"Of course not, Sister. I would never-" She tried laughing it off but the woman was deadly silent. Her mouth admittedly shut and turned to a grimace. This was not good at all and was instantly wishing to just go hide under Dew's covers.

"How long have you been screwing around with that...thing?" Sister Imperator seemed almost in shock with what was being asked. This girl had the entire world at her feet and was instead throwing it all away for some nameless ghoul who threw temper tantrums?

"I'm not exactly sure what you mean?" Dahlia tried to play as coy as possible. They had been so careful in the past few weeks in meeting up. Dew hadn't even been to her corridor since his cycle ended after noticing the sisters spying.

"You're not very good at lying, little girl." The Imperator stood from her desk. Dahlia felt the air leave her lungs as the woman tugged the turtleneck aside to show the healed mark from Dew.

"How could you be so dumb to let this creature ruin you?" Sister covered her mouth in shock. Was this girl that stupid? Her disobedience wasn't expected in the slightest after meticulously choosing her out of the bunch for such an honor.

"His name is Dew and he isn't just some creature." Dahlia seethed. His mark meant so much to the both of them, no matter if the Imperator saw it any different. Her anger causing the tears to well in her eyes.

"You had a duty to this congregation. You were nothing before I brought you here, girl." The sound of the Imperator's hand against the woman's cheek echoing the room. Dahlia held the side of her face in shock, the tears running down her cheeks.

"I never wanted to marry the Cardinal, I don't love him." Dahlia grimaced at the sting from her cheek. It would most likely welt just a bit which would've been harder to hide from her ghoul unfortunately.

"And what? You think you love that ghoul? You're incredibly stupid." Sister laughed while taking a seat once again. It was satisfying to see the girl trembling with anger and crying, she'd learn to toughen up eventually even if meant beating it into her. This abbey wasn't for the weak as the Imperator learned a long time ago.

"I'm his mate." Dahlia's confession made the tension spike. Sister huffed before adjusting her blazer contemplating on what the next move would be. Mates? That wasn't part of this well constructed plan but could be worked around if the characters played along.

"Well if you value him so much then you'll listen carefully. Either you cut ties with him, continue your role and marry the Cardinal or I'll execute the both of you." The Imperator smirked. If this girl really cared for that ghoul then the decision should've been easy. She could see her heart instantly breaking from across the desk. This ghoul would most likely crumble over time without his mate anyway which took care of that issue.

"If I do this, you won't hurt him?" Dahlia pleaded. It was pathetic for her to watch what could be a strong woman break over love. Sister leaned that lesson with Nihil long ago that men weren't worthy of their time, they simply showed their true colors.

"Yes, he'll be fine. You will assume the role you've given by our Dark Lord without question. No word of this will reach the Cardinal, understood?" The Imperator reiterated. If the Cardinal found out about this little issue then he would've allowed it. He was too soft sometimes but would learn over time under her hand.

"As long as Dew is safe, I will do as you please." Dahlia bowed her head in shame. Dew didn't deserve such a weak mate after all. She should've been able to persuade the Imperator or at least held her ground more. Sister gestured for her to leave in which Dahlia gladly took the opportunity to go hide back in her corridor. She was supposed to meet Dew later in the evening but it was best to just cut ties swiftly without seeing him. It would completely break her heart but if meant keeping him alive then she would've done whatever to do so.

Aether had noticed that Dew hadn't stopped starring at the clock for the past half an hour

Aether had noticed that Dew hadn't stopped starring at the clock for the past half an hour. This wasn't usual behavior for him considering his attention span was usually very scattered. Something just seemed wrong and the alarm bells starting going off in his head once the fire ghoul began to pace.

"Dew, is everything okay?" Cirrus instantly worried over his behavior. He wasn't the type to be nervous or unsettled by much. Even the room was cold which wasn't usual with the fire ghoul always bouncing around the room.

"She's late..." Dew looked back at the clock. It wasn't unusual for her to run a few minutes behind but this wasn't getting ridiculous. Dahlia was suppose to be there at 6 but it was well past that.

"Maybe something held her up?" Swiss suggested. Panicking wouldn't help the situation in the slightest. However it seemed like Dew had different plans as a small flame curled upwards on the curtain. Aether sighed before going to extinguish it before things got out of hand like the last time.

"Instead of burning the place down, why don't you go check on her?' Aether was stomping on the small flames. The suggestion stopping Dew in his tracks before he nodded, his tail waving frantically behind him.

Most of them glanced at each other questioning what the issue could be. Perhaps Dew had done something to already piss off his mate? Or the ceremony plans were just taking longer than expected? But in the back of Aether's mind, he knew something was very wrong. Dahlia didn't seem the type to just stay mad at the fire ghoul plus it seemed like Dew was incredibly sweet towards her as shocking as it seemed. Since the bonding, both were practically attached at the hip over those last few weeks. This wasn't good at all...
