the party setup had been completed, and slowly but surely, people began to arrive at the house. as of now, there were about twenty-ish people so far, which was perfect because emersyn had told the boys it would just be a small gathering. a lie. she'd invited everyone she could get ahold of. from popular tiktok creators to nearby youtubers to laura's daughter.

emersyn sat up on the kitchen countertop, her feet dangling below her and a water-filled red solo cup in her hand. she was surrounded by smaller group of tiktok influencers who'd someone already managed to get tipsy from their alcoholic drinks. matt and chris had just entered through the doorway, pushing through the group. "come on. pick up the cake." matthew bopped the back of her head and stood directly in front of her with his car keys in hand.

"don't fucking touch me, you dimwit."

"what the fuck? are you british?"

emersyn pushed him aside, creating room for her to drop to her feet. "honestly, i wish." she shrugged. as they pushed through the small crowd again and made their way to the front door, emersyn paused, her palm rested against the door handle. "shouldn't just me and cam go get it or something? you guys aren't supposed to see it yet."

"cameron's high as a kite if i'm gonna be honest."

em blew air from her lips. already?

"well, what if—"

matt cut her off, grazing her shoulder as he passed her to throw the door open. "we don't have fucking time for this, emmy."

em frowned. why did he always do this? why couldn't he just. . .not?

grudgingly, she followed the two brothers up the driveway and into the backseat of the van. they'd been driving for not even four minutes when matt's eyes darted up at a the rear view mirror. "why're you shaking so damn much?"

em looked down at her bouncing leg. "huh?" she gulped. "oh, uhm, i don't— i don't know, i guess."

"fucking stop before i crash the car again."

chris slapped his brothers shoulder with the back of his hand. "yoo. too soon, honestly."

"i was the one driving so i think i can decide whether or not it's took soon."

just then, emmy's phone dinged, it was an incoming text. she lifted it from her lap, checking the message. she scoffed reading the ID name. she could have swore she'd blocked him. "hey, chris, have you spoken to jake since the mall?"

matt lifted his eyes to meet hers through the mirror again. "what happened at the mall?"

"fuck no. why?" emersyn pulled her phone in front of chris' fade so he could read the screen. "oh, what the fuck?"

matt's hands slapped the wheel and he groaned. "guys, come on! what the fuck happened at the mall?"

"jake almost got nut-punched, that's what."

"i'm sorry, what?"

very lowly, em chuckled a little. "you wouldn't have done anything, you wouldn't fight someone even if you had the ability."
