"That was much needed after this long week" Lilly says placing her fork and knife down.

"Seriously, all you do is wave at kids in your clown costumes" Vincent laughs, leaning back and finishing his wine.

"I said that was one of my roles. And you try being in one of those costumes all day to entertain those lovely children!" Lilly mutters with raised eyebrows.

"I prefer watching you do it" he grins, making me tilt my head.

"You seriously go watch her do it?" I ask surprised.

"Yes, sometimes I walk in front of those children only to find him standing in the back, with a fat smirk on his face. Can you believe that?" she comments not quite believing it herself.

"Only Vincent would do such a thing" I mutter radiantly. Because he loves her.

She may be thinking it's because he likes mocking her. But I know it's because he admires her.

Realisation dawns on me. So that's where he keeps disappearing throughout the days.

Her phone starts ringing, instantly catching her attention. She looks at the caller, before looking at us apologetically, "This sounds really bad of me since it's really bad timing. But often some of the children at the hospital stay in contact with me even after I leave for the night. One of them now-"

I cut her off with complete understanding, "Of course Lilly, don't worry! Take your time"

She smiles at me with gratefulness, "Thank you, I won't be long", before turning to Vincent who nods at her, and walking towards the quiet part of the entrance around the corner.

"Vincent, she's an amazing woman" I smile still looking in the direction she went.

"I know" he grins, "it's why I love her"

I chuckle as I finish my wine, "you for sure do"

"I just hope it all works out after she learns the truth", he says sighing, bringing one of his hands to his face.

"Hey" I say, placing my hand over his, "don't stress so much. The love between you both is so obvious that I'm convinced she will stay with you no matter what."

"And if she doesn't?" he asks, bringing his hand down and staring into my eyes in a panicked stance.

I open my mouth to speak but no words come out. It's the unspeakable truth that if she doesn't want to stay, then no one can force her.

"Vincent, put it this way. If you're meant to be, then you're meant to be. Nothing will stop you both and there will always be a way. It might go down an ugly path, but you will get there. But if you're not...then there's something better planned for you in the future"

I didn't know how else to put it, but I hoped he got where I was coming from.

"You're right" he agrees.

"Of course, I always am" I mutter, flicking my hair with humour and making him shake his head.

"You're not bothered by her excusing herself for her phone call, right?" Vincent asks.

I look at him with furrowed eyebrows, "Of course not Vincent, I really don't mind. It's not like I have anywhere to be too" I laugh.

He smiles, "True, it's just sometimes it can be a while. The kids like speaking to her, and she never refuses because they have cancer and she says anything could happen. I never mind though, it just makes me love her even more"
