-Will's perspective-

Mike seemed to take forever as he was grabbing his instrument from the band room.

Did he change his mind? Did my enthusiasm scare him? God maybe he's not even going to help and I just inflated his ego even more... how terrifying.

The sound of a saxophone came from up ahead. That wasn't...his instrument. It wasn't piano. It wasn't clarinet...

I slowly turned to see that Mike was playing another instrument...flawlessly. How did he...know so many instruments?

The sounds of students talking about band became louder around me. It was working...

    "Woah...who is that?"

    "He's so talented..."

"I love this song...he's doing a really good job... I want to learn to play it too"

I couldn't help but stare as I passed out the fliers to the kids who sounded interested.

It was just like the first time I heard him play...

     My heart is fluttering...

   ...I feel light headed...

     It's truly beautiful...

Why...does it have to be him...?

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?" A voice came booming from across the hall with loud clicks in each step from their heels...Ms Kelly. "You should all be headed to class! Who is responsible for all this noise?"

The students that were previously around Mike scattered down different ends of the hallway. They couldn't risk getting in trouble even if it was just them listening.

     Mike stepped forward though...

     Why was he...doing this?

He clutched onto his saxophone tightly as he looked up at the curly haired guidance counselor. "It's not noise....it's music."

I quickly ran between the two with an awkward smile to try and break the tension. I couldn't have Mike get in trouble for my stupid idea. "Ms. Kelly! I can explain!"

She held her hand up to cut me off before pointing at Mike. "You. With the instrument. We're going to the office. Now."

Mike sighed before rolling his eyes and following her close behind.

   Was this really happening?

"WAIT!" I try to yell out to them as they continue to walk forward. "It... it was MY idea! Take me instead!"

    They don't stop.

And just like that... he disappeared down the hall. I couldn't help but feel guilty. This was all my fault...if he got suspended... oh my god he could get suspended.

I knew it was time for class, but I couldn't help myself from doing what I was about to do.

-20 minutes later-

I sat near the door as I heard Mike getting chewed out. I couldn't help but flinch with every word the principal told him. It felt all too familiar.

    "Irresponsible"

    "Not like you"

"Parents would be hearing about this"
