chaerin stood by the bus, her arms crossed as she watched jay effortlessly lift kyorin's bag and place it onto the storage rack. he adjusted the strap, making sure it wouldn't fall, before glancing down at kyorin with a small smile. she said something chaerin couldn't hear, but whatever it was, it made jay chuckle.
next to her, jina shook her head, arms looped around her own backpack straps. "you're really just gonna stand here and watch?" she asked, voice laced with amusement.
chaerin's grip on her sleeves tightened. "what else am i supposed to do?"
"i don't know. something." jina nudged her. "you do still want him, right?"
chaerin swallowed hard. of course she wanted him. she loved him. she never stopped. all she ever wanted was answers: why he pulled away, why he stopped talking to her, why it felt like one day she was the center of his world and the next she was barely a passing thought.
she never meant for the breakup to happen. she didn't even remember how the words left her mouth. but now kyorin was in the picture and it made her stomach twist. "get your man back," jina urged, shooting her a pointed look.
chaerin took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders, and stepped forward.

jay had just finished dusting his hands off when chaerin tugged at his sleeve. he turned, eyebrows raised.
"can we talk?" she asked.
he glanced back toward kyorin, who was still adjusting her seat by the window, before nodding. "yeah, okay."
they walked a few steps away from the bus, just far enough to be out of earshot. chaerin hesitated, chewing on her bottom lip. now that she had him here, she wasn't sure where to start.
"i just," she exhaled. "i miss you, jay. i want another chance."
jay clenched his jay, feeling emotions he never knew he could feel for chaerin. he looked at her in disbelief and almost disgust. she watched as he glanced away, exhaling through his nose. for a moment, he was quiet. then, he asked, "i need to talk to you about something."
chaerin's stomach turned. "what?"
jay crossed his arms, looking at her carefully. "what you said to kyorin. about her taking what was yours."
chaerin stiffened.
"she didn't deserve it," she muttered.
jay's expression didn't change. "chae, you know that's not true."
her fists clenched. "as my friend, she should've done something to make me happy too. she was being selfish."
jay scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. "and what're you being right now?"
