and i know in my heart, hurt people,
hurt people. and we both drew
blood but man those cuts were never
equal.

the sun hung high in the sky, casting warm golden light over the campsite. the open clearing was alive with movement, the student council's grand idea of a friendly game of capture the flag unfolding in chaotic bursts of color. each senior cabin had been split into teams, marked by brightly colored armbands to keep track of who was who.

kyorin crouched behind a fallen log, gripping her nerf blaster tightly as she peeked out to assess the situation. the rules were simple: steal the other team's flag while defending your own.

across the field, chaerin stood reloading her gun with an effortless ease that irritated kyorin to no end. she wasn't even trying that hard, wasn't even taking this seriously, yet she carried that same air of superiority. she was always two steps ahead, always unfazed.

kyorin inhaled sharply and adjusted her aim.

a voice came from somewhere behind her. "hey, kyorin, maybe focus on the objective instead of just targeting one person?"

"shut up," she muttered under her breath.

her eyes locked on chaerin. she fired.

chaerin dodged, barely, the foam dart grazing past her arm. she turned to kyorin with a knowing smirk, raising an eyebrow. "really? going for me first?"

kyorin clenched her jaw. "if you actually tried to play the game you planned, i wouldn't have to."

chaerin fired back without hesitation, forcing kyorin to duck behind the log again. "you know, you don't have to be so annoying," she called, loud enough to be heard over the scattered sounds of battle. "i was right, wasn't i? you always want what i have. first my place in the art competition, and now—"

kyorin didn't let her finish. she fired again, hitting chaerin square in the chest.

chaerin scoffed, brushing the dart off like it didn't matter. "wow. guess i should be flattered."

kyorin stood, gripping her blaster tight. "and i guess i should be used to you thinking the world revolves around you."

chaerin's expression didn't change, but there was a flicker of something sharp in her eyes. "selfish of me, huh? for not wanting to play nice with someone who takes and takes and never thinks about what they're actually ruining?"

kyorin's fingers twitched on the trigger. "that's rich coming from you. like you don't take everything for yourself first and expect everyone to just go along with it."

the tension was suffocating. their teammates had slowed, sensing the hostility radiating between them. no one was shooting anymore, too wary to step into whatever silent war was unfolding.

chaerin exhaled, shaking her head. "i'm done."

kyorin hit a nerve. "what?"

chaerin pulled off her armband and tossed her nerf gun to the side. "i forfeit. i'm not playing. not with you."
