"i can feel my gpa dying," jake groaned, face down on a wrinkled world history packet. "it's gasping for air. i can hear it."

"you don't even have a gpa to begin with," heeseung said, eyes still glued to his phone. heeseung was over it now, his head pounding the more he thought about his finals when he should be worrying about championships.

"i had dreams, heeseung. i had hope. a vision of myself as a competent adult." jake groaned, being dramatic as he leaned against nari for comfort. nari was enjoying her lunch, not wanting to study anymore. she picked up one hand to flip jake's packet closed and placed his tray over it.

"you're barely a functioning student if you don't eat, dumbass," nari muttered, picking up a spoonful of rice and into jake's mouth. partially to get him to be quiet but also because she wanted him to eat.

"i think i've aged five years in the last three days," jake said through the mouthful.

"at least the lantern festival's next week, right? something fun after all this," nari reassured him, looking at the rest of the table for assistance in comforting the golden retriever.

"right," heeseung grunted, looking up from hiss phone, "we suffer now and then eat a lot of food food and maybe find out who our soulmate is."

"i'm bringing a lantern that says 'hire me please' in case college apps start haunting me early," jay said, half joking, half serious as he flipped through his notes.

"lucky for you, that's a problem for us in the spring," kyorin sighed out of relief. she shuddered at the idea during college decision week. she just knew she'd struggle to pick.

"are sunghoon and yoojin not coming today?"
before anyone could reply, heeseung frowned toward the entrance, "we only have fifteen minutes left of lunch before we go back. don't they want to eat? they're scary when they're hangry."

"festival meeting is probably running long again," kyorin said without looking up, "probably still arguing about where the snack booths should go. yoojin called sunghoon a bitch the other night because they didn't agree on how it should be placed."

"they might as well go to the festival together then," jake added, grinning at the idea, "it'd be entertaining, don't you think?"

"remember the camping trip?" heeseung said suddenly, eyes lighting up, "yoojin taught him how to make a s'more and i've never seen him so flustered."

"it's so funny seeing him in denial," jay said under his breath. "he acts like he wasn't at least the slighted bit into her but he's more into her than he thinks."

"what are we talking about?" sunghoon sudden emerged behind them as he and yoojin finally arrived, both holding rolled-up maps and looking mildly annoyed.
