The weekend was fun; we swam in the lake, ate s'mores, and even had an encounter with raccoons. His dad set up a soccer goal and we played soccer of course Kristian got goals every second. I didn't complain; Karissa pulled me aside "So anything interesting happen?" She gave me a smirk like she knew something.

It burned inside me to tell her we were together but I didn't know if Kristian wanted to yet. I exhaled "No we hung out and swam. He took me to the pier and we hung out." She smirked and raised her eyebrows "No kissing? Sleeping together? Did he ask you to be his girlfriend? Give me the details." I shrugged "We slept together but..." She squealed "Oh my god!!!! How was it? Wait I don't want to know." She cringed and I realized what she had meant.

I corrected her "No!!! We just slept! No um, intimate stuff." She looked bummed but smiled "Well good. You deserve the passion and effort. He'll probably ask you when he feels it's right. He's a guy. They overthink especially Kristian. He was overthinking asking you out for months."

I acted surprised."What? He wanted to ask me??" She realized what she had "done" "Violet you can't tell him I told you. He will kill me!" I continued with my act "I... I didn't think he felt that way. He's so..." She cut me off "Slow, showing no emotions. He's your average guy. You have to make a move."

I shook my head no "I can't get involved with your brother. My life is plenty screwed up." She smiled but before she could get a word out Kristian ran over and sat beside her "Whatcha gossiping about?" Karissa gave him a fake smile "Just girl stuff." He looked at me "Awe. Well, Mom said she needs your help. I'm going to take Violet to that cave, your welcome to join after Mom's done with you."

She groaned in annoyance "Don't I get time with my best friend? You always have her." She stood up and went to their mom, Kristian smirked "She needs Madison. I think she's going to catch on sooner than I'm sure we'd like." I'm glad I kept my mouth shut, I nodded "She asked. I left it up to you to say something."

He got up "Come on. Let's go before she comes back. I convinced my mom to distract her." I jumped up and followed him down the trail "You are something." He glanced back at me with a smirk "I need time with you, she's had you most of the day." I jogged slightly to meet his side, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder as we walked. We came upon a cave shortly "How'd you find this?"

He looked inside it "When we were kids, we wandered off and found it. My mom was near death when we came back, the forest service and state troopers were with her gathering their reports. She hasn't forgiven us for it." He sat on one of the ledges along the wall "Pretty neat huh?"

I examined the cave some more "Yes. Cool place to hide." He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his lap "I waited all day to do this." He leaned in and kissed me; he gently bit my lip and pulled on it while he played with my hair. He inches away slowly and whispers "I'll never get over kissing you." I couldn't help but smile and kiss him again.

We heard someone approaching so I got up and sat across from him; Karissa came up "I swear if I have to cut another fish I'm going to puke." She sat beside me "So what's going on? You both have flushed cheeks, did I interrupt something?" Kristian smiled "Nope. Just getting chilly. We should head back." Karissa whined "I just got here!" I couldn't help the giggle from my mouth; I loved their relationship. I sometimes wished I had a brother to annoy and bug. Then again I enjoyed being an only child.

We hung out for a little bit; talking and watching them playfully argue back and forth up until it started getting dark. We walked back, Karissa on my left and Kristian on my right; Karissa gently nudged me as we walked. She gave me a quick smile and used her eyes to signal me to ask her brother out. I ignored her up until she nearly shoved me into him making us stumble. He grabbed my finger but loosely held it not making it obvious. Karissa stopped, he let it go "You both suck."

We acted surprised and in sync asked "What do you mean?" I giggled once I realized, and he smiled "Jinx. You owe me a soda." I realized he was directing the conversation somewhere else so I carried on "Um no. I said it first. So you owe me." Karissa cleared her throat "Just kiss already." I cringed at her and so did he. Again we both said "We're friends." We looked at each other and laughed again; Karissa stomped off "Ughh! Not forever!" I looked at Kristian and laughed "You were right. She needs Madison."

Kristian looked in front of us to make sure Karissa was walking still and quickly kissed my cheek "We'll tell her. This is just more fun." We caught up to Karissa who gave us the silent treatment. We got back to the camp and she turned to me "It's my turn for Violet's attention. She's sleeping in my tent. You had her last night."

She grabbed my hand before I could say anything; I looked back at Kristian who smiling but went to his parents at the fire. We went into her tent and she sat on the sleeping bag "You won't keep anything from me right?" I sat next to her "No." She started crying "I hope not. I lost Madison and Luke, I'd hate to lose you." I hugged her "That wasn't your fault. They should've been better to you than they were."

I pulled back and she wiped her eyes "I'm sorry. For how I acted. I just had this vision of you being with my brother and becoming my sister-in-law one day. I just want both of you to be happy. I got caught up in my comments, it became overwhelming with the possibility." I smiled "You never know what the future holds."

She let out a laugh "I even pictured little Kristian and Violet babies. Isn't that ridiculous? This whole Madison and Luke situation has my head everywhere." I grabbed and held her hand "I understand. And no. You want the best for us. You have a big heart Karissa and it would hurt you if people you're close to get hurt. That's okay."

She licked her dry lips "I care. I see your relationship with him and he cares about you. It's different than his ex. He genuinely loves you. He isn't the grumpy guy everyone knows. He smiles more. My parents have noticed it. You being his friend has changed a huge part of him."

Love. All of the things he's said have pointed to that word. I've always thought love had no time to develop, it had been months since we met but only a few days in a relationship. It was possible he did but the only way to find out was to wait. Wait until he said he did.
