A Rainy Day

It was a rainy spring day when it happened. Akashi Seijuro, the firstborn who was eight, and Akashi Aiko, a year younger than her brother, were waiting for their parents to get back home from a meeting. They looked alike, apart from the fact that Seijuro had red hair and eyes while Aiko had red hair and golden eyes.

"Onii-chan~" Aiko called from the living-room.

"What is it, little one?" Seijuro replied sitting beside her.

"I wanna play." she said hugging a brown bunny plush.

"Are you ordering me around?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"Please~?" she begged putting on her best puppy eyes.

"Uh, fine! What do you wa-" he was cut off by a loud thunder.

"Woo!" Aiko exclaimed. "That was very close!"

"Yeah." Seijuro smiled slightly getting up.

"What are you doing, onii-chan~?" she asked rolling on the couch.

"Nothing." he said moving aside the curtain. "Just looking outside."

"I hope it'll stop soon." Seijuro thought. "Streets are dangerous."

"Where are mom and dad?" she asked lifting up her rabbit.

"They're on their way back, I guess." he said looking at the clock as another thunder was heard.

"Geez! That was super close!" Aiko jumped down the couch.

"Calm down." Seijuro giggled looking at his little sister talking with her toy about how loud and close the last thunder was.

Then the phone rang. Seijuro widened his eyes and run to answer.

"Hello?" he said as Aiko got closer to listen.

"Hello. Am I... Am I talking with Akashi Seijuro?" a man on the other side of the phone asked.

"Yes, it's me. What is it?"

"I am so sorry to tell you this, but your parents couldn't make it."

Seijuro started to breath faster and some tears started to form in his eyes.

"Onii-chan?" Aiko called grabbing his brother's shirt.

"What?" he asked in a trembling voice.

"They got in a car accident." the man explained. "We tried to save them, but we were too late. I'm so-"

Seijuro let the phone fall from his hands and fell on his knees.

"Onii-chan!" Aiko picked up the phone and tried to understand who was talking but 'beep' was all she could hear. "Onii-chan?" she called again placing the phone back where it should have been. "You ok?"

Seijuro's cheeks and nose were red and his eyes were full of sadness.

"They won't come back." he said raising his head as a flash lit up the room.

"What are you-"

"Mom and dad are dead, Aiko." he raised his voice as tears started to fall.

Aiko's eyes widened as another thunder was heard.

"It's... It's not funny." she said crying falling on her knees.

Seijuro kept silent and hugged her tightly. The both of them cried until they were out of tears and fell asleep on the cold floor.
