Chapter Ten - The Roads

I still had shaky hands and trouble driving so Nubbins still drove when we had to leave. He didnt mind, he liked driving me around and took good care of my car. After about two weeks I was starting to feel better and had more and more hours of the day where I could forget what I saw and just enjoy Nubbins company. We went into the town a lot, I realized a lot of new stores and restaurants had opened since I left and I wanted to take look at all them. Me and Nubbins had lunch and were about to head back to my car when something caught my eye. Placed outside of a small bar was a "help wanted" sign. I had been meaning to pick up a job and bars always had decent pay and good tips, it might not be a bad idea. I stopped walking making Nubbins pause and look back at me. I pointed out the sign and he made a face

"What?"

I asked and he just shrugged his shoulders

"I know you said you wanted to start working but that place seems kinda sketchy"

"Well it doesn't seem like anywhere else is hiring plus I worked at a restaurant when I was in Virginia, I have experience"

Nubbins sighed but helped me find the entrance which was oddly placed on the side down the alley. Nubbins waited by the door as I walked in. The bar was quiet, only a few people sat around but it somehow still felt crowded, it was midday though so I didn't expect it to be too busy. I walked around before coming up to the bar and waving over the bartender

"Hey suger what can I get you?"

The older man said with a smile I slightly shook my head

"Oh um I was actually coming in about the help wanted sign"

He looked me up and down and nodded

"You worked in a bar before?"

He asked and I slightly lied

"Well I served at one before for about two years"

I said and he nodded

"Well we need someone to help out on the weekend for the night rush, you would be working behind the bar with me, taking orders and making drinks"

I nodded

"Yeah I can do that"

I said and he smiled

"Well than I'll see you on Friday night"

My eyes widened

"Wait, really?"

He laughed slightly

"Yeah, you seem capable, more than most people that already work here"

After a few basic questions he gave me the exact time to come in and I thanked him before walking back out.

"I got it"

I said with a smile, Nubbins gave me a smile but I didn't quite reach his eyes. I sighed, my smile faltering

"Love?"

I asked and his smile dropped too

"Listen before you say it, yes I know you can handle yourself, you've definitely proved that... but I still worry about you"

I smiled softly at him and placed a gentle hand on his face

"Its sweet that you worry, but I'll be fine. I'll admit it's not the most... cordial establishment but the man I talked to seemed alright"

Nubbins brow twitched

"So your gonna be working with a guy?"

He asked and I placed a hand on my hip looking up at him
