Jaden and Growlithe finally arrived in Pewter City. He headed to the Gym but found it closed. The Gym Leader was out doing personal things. Instead, he headed to the Pokemon Centre to rest up.
After multiple training sessions, Caterpie evolved into Metapod and the only move it knows is Harden. Pidgey and Bulbasaur also levelled up and learned new moves.
Pidgey learned Wing Attack and Bulbasaur learned Poison Powder and Magical Leaf. He forgot Leech Seed & Vine Whip.
Nurse Joy gave Jaden a key to one of the Centre's rooms. He decided to purchase some pokeballs, berries & potions. His Pokemon were healed up.
Nurse Joy: Your Pokemon are all feeling better.
Jaden: Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow.
Nurse Joy: Have a nice evening.
Jaden headed to his room. He collapsed onto his bed. He took a deep breath. Growlithe was by his side.
Jaden: Wow. Our first gym battle is tomorrow. Gonna be tough, but we can do it.
Growlithe ruffed. Jaden patted his head. They went to sleep.

The next day, Jaden headed to the Pewter Gym. He entered and headed down a tunnel.
Gym Leader: Hello! Are you a challenger?
Jaden: I am. I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader.
Brock: I'm the Gym Leader, Brock. I specialize in Rock-types. So, are you ready?
Jaden: I am.
Jaden and Brock stood on the sides of the arena.
Referee: I will be the referee. This gym battle will be a two-on-two battle. The battle will be over when one side's Pokemon are unable to continue. Furthermore, the challenger is allowed to make substitutions. Now, bring out your first Pokemon.
Jaden: Bulbasaur, let's go!
Brock: Geodude, let's go!
Referee: Alright, battle begin!
Brock: Geodude, use Rock Throw!
Jaden: Dodge and use Magical Leaf!
Geodude got hit. Magical Leaf is a move that doesn't miss the target.
Brock: Geodude hang on! Use Sand Attack?
Bulbasaur got sand in its eyes.
Brock: Geodude, use Rock Throw!
Bulbasaur got damaged by multiple rocks.
Brock: Now use Headbutt!
It connected with a powerful headbutt.
Jaden: Bulbasaur hang on! Use Magical Leaf!
Geodude got hit. It was struggling to hang on.
Jaden: Finish it with Razor Leaf!
Brock: Use Stealth Rock!
Just before Razor Leaf connected, Geodude used Stealth Rock. Razor Leaf landed a hit and it was out.
Referee: Geodude is unable to battle! Bulbasaur is the winner!
Jaden: Nice job!
Just as they were celebrating, Stealth Rock was taking effect. Giant rocks appeared in the ground and surrounded Bulbasaur.
Jaden: What's Stealth Rock?
Brock: Stealth Rock is a move that deals damage to Pokemon that are substituted.
Jaden: What?! If I substitute now, they'll get damaged even before battling, huh? Such like a Gym Leader.
Jaden was in a bind. Does he change or not?
Brock: Geodude return. Nice work. Get a good rest. Onix, let's go!
Jaden: Onix huh?
Pokedex: Onix, the Rock Snake Pokemon. When it travels underground, it causes tremors and earthquakes. It can move at 50mph.
Jaden: I'll stick with Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur was getting tired.
Brock: Use Bind!
Onix wrapped it's tail around Bulbasaur, squeezing it.
Jaden: Bulbasaur get out of there! Use Magical Leaf!
But Bulbasaur didn't listen. Onix was squeezing even tighter, until...
Referee: Bulbasaur is unable to battle! Onix is the winner!
Brock: Nice job, Onix.
Jaden: Bulbasaur return. Get some rest. Alright Growlithe, it's your turn.
As Growlithe entered the battle, Stealth Rock took effect. The giant rocks slammed into Growlithe. He was now damaged.
Brock: And that's the effects of Stealth Rock. And since you've used a Fire-type, I'll finish this with one strike. Use Rock Tomb!
Rocks appeared from above and started falling toward Growlithe.
Jaden: Growlithe, use Take Down to dodge!
Growlithe used the speed from Take Down to dodge the falling rocks.
Brock: Wow. You're Growlithe has incredible speed.
Jaden: Thanks. Now use Take Down!
After dodging the rocks, Growlithe charged towards Onix and landed a direct hit.
Brock: Onix, stay strong. Use Bind!
Jaden: Dodge and use Crunch!
Growlithe dodged the Bind and bit Onix's tail.
Brock: Onix, watch out!
Jaden: Great! Now swing it round and round!
Brock: What?!
Growlithe bit it's tail even more and spun around. Onix was getting dizzy.
Jaden: Now switch into Flame Wheel!
Growlithe uses the momentum of the spin to turn Onix into Flame Wheel. Growlithe aimed for the rocks.
Brock: Onix! Are you okay?!
The smoke cleared.
Referee: Onix is unable to battle. Growlithe is the winner and the winner of this Gym match is Jaden.
Jaden: We did it. Great job, Growlithe. Here. An Oran berry.
Growlithe munched the berry down.
Brock: Nice work, Onix. Get a good rest. That was a great battle. Spinning Onix round and then using that momentum to power up that Flame Wheel. That by far was my favourite match.
Jaden: Thanks. It was tough.
Brock: Here's your reward: the Boulder Badge.
Jaden: Thanks. Our first badge in Kanto. Um, where's the next Gym?
Brock: I'd say Cerulean City. They use Water-types. So train your Bulbasaur.
Jaden: I will. Thanks. See ya.
Brock waved goodbye.
Jaden obtained his first Gym badge in Kanto. And next stop is Cerulean City.
And the dream continues...
