After gaining the Glacier Badge, Jaden rested in the Pokemon Centre.
The next day...
Jaden: You ready, Arcanine?
Arcanine replied with a bark.
Jaden had Arcanine, Dragonair, Espeon, Umbreon and Ariados.
Jaden: There's a Pokemon along the way that I want to catch. Are you ready?
Arcanine barked in reply.
Jaden: Then let's get going.
They left Mahogany Town and headed to Blackthorn City to get their eighth gym badge in Johto.
They would battle trainers to level up.
Trainer: Go Gligar!
Jaden: A Gligar, huh? Go Dragonair! Use Aqua Tail!
Dragonair swung its tail as if it was a wave in a raging storm.
Trainer: Gligar, counter with Slash!
Gligar used its claw to match Dragonair's attack. They were even.
Trainer: Use U-turn!
Gligar attacked Dragonair and then returned to its trainer.
Trainer: Go Ursaring!
Jaden: Wait. What happened?
Trainer: U-turn is a move that allows the Pokemon to return to its trainer and bring another Pokemon out in its place. Ursaring, use Slash!
Ursaring sharpened its claw and attacked.
Jaden: Dragonair, dodge and use Shock Wave!
Dragonair landed a hit.
Trainer: Ursaring, use Ice Punch!
Ursaring charged in with a fist of ice.
Jaden: Dragonair, dodge it!
Dragonair dodged the attack by jumping.
Trainer: Grab it!
Ursaring grabbed Dragonair's tail and threw it.
Jaden: No Dragonair!
Ursaring: Now use Shadow Claw!
Ursaring charged in with a claw made of shadows.
Jaden: Use your tail to grab its arm!
Dragonair wrapped its tail around Ursaring's arm.
Trainer: Oh no.
Jaden: Now throw it!
Dragonair threw Ursaring into a tree.
Trainer: No Ursaring!
Jaden: Use Pulse!
But instead, Dragonair lept into the air and came soaring down with intense speed and power.
Trainer: Ursaring, dodge it!
But it didn't. Ursaring was paralysed with fear and couldn't move.
Dragonair landed a direct hit and was victorious.
Trainer: Ursaring, return.
Jaden: Nice job, Dragonair. But what was that move you used?
Pokedex: Dragon Rush. The user tackles the target while exhibiting overwhelming menace. This also makes the target flinch.
Jaden: So that's why Ursaring wouldn't dodge.
Trainer: This isn't over yet. Go Gligar!
Jaden: Gligar again. You want to continue, Dragonair?
It nodded its head.
Jaden: Okay then. Use Aqua Tail!
Dragonair swung its tail like it was a wave in a raging storm.
Trainer: Dodge it, Gligar!
Gligar lept into the air and began to fly.
Jaden: Use Dragon Pulse!
