I thought I'd give a little context for this one. Lately, I've been thinking about what to get as my first tattoo. Immediately after getting my idea, I thought of a bunch of lore that could be used as a story and potentially tie into previous parts. I'm proud of the idea and can't wait until I can finally get the tattoo whenever that may be (please don't steal it). Hopefully, the story will translate well since it runs like a movie in my mind.

Just a few weeks ago, we had one of our most satisfying wins to date. We prevailed over the self-obsessed Varsity team - and boy did it feel good. It was a close game, I'll give them that. They played well even with some of their cheap shots. It was our impromptu reunion with Portman in the intermission that gave us the renewed energy to succeed. We also destroyed the demeaning Warrior name and replaced it with the Ducks. It was Charlie's unspoken promise to Linda.

Orion is calling us to the rink for an extra practice because we have a new player being introduced. It was only a matter of time since Jesse's roster spot is still open. After gearing up, we all make our way to the ice. People aren't as skeptical about getting a new player considering how well things went when we got our most recent lineup.

When we get to the ice, Coach Orion is waiting with the new guy. He's already got a matching jersey. As we get closer, I notice his striking blue eyes along with his hair that's similar to Guy's but darker. Plus he's only slightly taller than me.

"Team, I want you to meet our new player." Orion sets up the introduction.

"Hi, I'm Casper. It's nice to meet you." He seems nervous but excited to play the game.

"Hey." Scattered greetings and smiles fill the room.

"Casper like the friendly ghost?" I ask to try and be a friendly face.

"Yeah, I guess." He chuckles as his nerves appear to fade a little.

"I love that movie." I state to try and make him feel at ease.

"Me too." He smiles back at me, appreciating the extra effort albeit small.

"Mr McCarthy here is a very skilled young man whom I think will be a fine fit to our current team." Orion interrupts us. "He plays predominantly left wing - though he is interchangeable and can play center and right side if needed."

"Sounds like he's gonna give Banks a run for his money." Averman quips.

"Since I know how you all play, I have an idea of where McCarthy will stand in the lineup. However, that is yet to be determined. This practice is all about finding the right fit. So, play your best and you may be lucky enough to have a new linemate."

"Alright, let's do it!" Charlie sparks enthusiasm as we take our places.

By now, we're used to our positions in practice, so we don't hesitate when separating from our huddled state. Casper is assigned to the team opposite me as we begin. With each new player combination, it's obvious I'm not the only person who is trying to figure out this kid's play style.

As time goes on, we can all tell that he's more than comfortable on the ice. After a couple of hours, I finally get my chance to play along side him. At this point, I've figured him out a little more. He's similar to Adam in the same way that he's highly skilled and needs to be protected on the ice. That's why we have the Bash Brothers. However, they can't protect everyone.

The more I play with Casper by my side, the more I realise just how valuable he is. Other line combinations have been good, but we've clicked since the moment we saw each other. I feel like we're gonna become good friends.

"Hey, you wanna take the face-off?" I ask the left winger.

"Yeah, sure." He agrees before taking my place in front of Dwayne.
