Panic Attack

This was requested by FultonsBash_Babe - they also have a Ducks book if you want to check it out. Sorry for the wait - I hope you like it.

Ever since Averman found out that there was a circus rolling in about an hour away, he's been begging us to go with him so he could sponge a ride off someone's parents. He's probably only as eager as he is because he's the clown they left behind. Somehow, he managed to convince Bombay to make it a team trip out of it since it's the weekend. I'm sure he'll be tempted to leave us here.

Before piling onto the bus, Fulton and I made a deal. We agreed to sit together on the bus (both there and back) but hang out with our friends throughout the day. Being a couple, we're practically glued to one another, which I think others are a little tired of - especially Portman. I think this is for him more than anyone. Either way, we could probably use a little time apart.

Like a stampede, we made our way out of the bus and into the circus tent. Bombay took a couple of people  to the concessions stand to help collect snacks without everyone being in the way of the general public. Thankfully, I'm not one of them.

"If they ask for volunteers, we might never see him again." Luis jests as we take out seats whilst in conversation about Averman's excitement.

"That's not the worst thing that could happen today." Jesse plays along.

"Hey, I can hear you!" Averman turns around from the row in front of us.

"I'm joking, man."

"You know you'd end up trying to get a job here." I support previous claims.

"What? It's a good business opportunity." He shrugs.

"Maybe you should take Goldberg and sell yourself as a duo." Julie suggests from beside him.

"And Russ if you want a trio." I add with a three stooges mentality.

"Why do I hear my name?" Russ chimes in from behind me.

"We're saying that you'd be a good clown." Luis informs him.

"Clown? Please! I'd be running the whole damn show."

Casual chatter continues as people keep filtering into this humorously large and flimsy venue. A couple of minutes pass before Bombay returns with his arms full, almost pleading for us to take stuff from him. With half of them not listening, I jump up and start handing stuff out. Coach thanks me as I free the final large bucket of popcorn from his grasp. Sitting back down, I keep a firm grip on the container but offer to share with those closest to me. Before I can get comfortable again, I feel a gentle tap on my shoulder, turning my attention.

"We've got a bunch of boxes of M&Ms if you wanna mix them with the popcorn." Connie offers with a small mountain of them in her lap.

"Nice!" Jesse grabs a couple of boxes, passes one down to Dwayne, and begins dumping the rest into our popcorn bucket.

"Did you sneak these in?" I question since I don't remember seeing any when we passed the stalls.

"No, Portman brought in a whole bag. Not sure how it managed that, but I'm not complaining."

"Thanks, Dean!" I call out to him a few rows back.

"I have more!" He shouts back as Fulton and Kenny wave.

I wave up to them but quickly divert my attention to the ring as the ringmaster's voice booms throughout the tiered seats. Showtime. Families fill every seat as we witness an array of acts. From juggling and your typical clown pairing to sword swallowing and walking along a tightrope that had my stomach churning. Now, they've brought out a small rack of throwing knives and apple and a wooden board. However, I'm nowhere near as excited as I would've been thanks to a couple of bad skate blade injuries I've endured in the last couple of years.
